A facebook group started.......
Dunno about the rest of you, but because of the advent of smartphone popularity, I find myself using facebook for various things.
It so happens that I got talking to Seb McCluskey on one of the distilling pages.
Last week, he made an innocuous comment and got shit from the redneck types that frequent some of those locations. I was in a position to sort out some of the shit, but after a bit of messaging chat, he started a group.
link removed
Called {something} (changed to that, because mention of "moonshine" tends to attract the redneck types - nothing against them per se, but they just don't "get it" from our POV)......
So, you are all welcome there.
Oh and it's in no way meant to undermine Jimmy and these forums (Jimmy has OK'd my posting this plug for the group anyway) or nonsense like that, just that with many smart phones, they already have an app/facility to go straight there, and allows us to keep in contact with non-forum members of our circles of family/friends etc........
{edit}......I will work out about how to forward invites etc later........

Hum ?
Yes, that's a fair comment. I'll run it past Web about changing it to a secret group, then it's pretty much invite only.......

I must agree... FB is too open for our type of hobby...for me anyway...by invite would be a better idea.
I tried to be normal once, worst two minutes of my life.

Yes. As soon as I read the first response about that, it got me thinking.
So the group is getting changed to reflect that......
FB is a good way to make use of available free resources. We'll be working on invites etc.......

I am with the Admiral on this. Your account then gets linked to the that group. Too much exposure for my tastes. I like this place just fine as it is.

I'm just a part-time Luddite.
I'm always posting on this, one of the few illicit distilling internet sites.
I don't Face book and I don't tweet.
I don't have a Nectar card, and have just refused the latest B&Q and Morisson's cards,an invitation to too much spam and grief, the way that I see it.
Do I think that I am keeping a low profile otherwise?
Of course not, maybe just a little damage limitation.
Whoever The Man is,he already knows about me.
Paranoid is my middle name.
Robert Paranoid Smith or Jones.

There is no ONE way.

I don't have time for facebook and all the useless crap people think other people are interested in. But that is my choice.
Having said that - yesterday, released Hainan Moon. It was bottled in 500ml mason jars with no label. And took off like a rocket. God bless the red necks. And they paid the equivalent of US$33.00 per liter (US$125.00 per gal.).
Too early to tell yet what the long term result will be but the release coincided with a weekend party at a surf beach along the coast a few miles. Big crowd.

Well, I'm not any less suspicious of seemingly useless tech, especially when it seems to counteract something I already do/have/use.
Yet, giving in to the peer pressure of "everyone else is on it" has actually been useful/helpful. Whether for actually posting or just reading up on what "the others" are up to......
It's not the "B all end all" but it's very useful to have the extra arrow in the quiver........ especially for those who're outside the country.......

I AM a stilling wannabe, but not a techo wannabe (IMHO) and my two cents worth is that Facebook; amongst those that care to know; is commonly called "stalkerbook' or somesuch.....i.e. whatever you type, 'they own/control'.
please consider
and FTR, I personally wont be a part of anything linking this fine forum and that place.

You see how much control you have when to try to delete your account.
None. It is impossible to remove/del a FB account.
