Still Spirits 24 hour Express Turbo Yeast
Hi guys,
Here are my finding of using this yeast.
I put 6 bags of Aldi granulated sugar in a young’s FV, topped up to 25 litre with water from the hot tap (combi boiler), and used an electric drill with a de-gassing whisk to mix it in well.
Tested the temp and it was at 40C (which is what the yeast recommends), pitched the yeast and gave it another good stir with the drill, fitted airlock and went to Pizza Hut.
When I came back the temp was 30C and was bubbling like crazy, it did this for about 36 hours, then started to tail off, until 48 hours it had finished.
I degassed with my drill and whisk, and it exploded all over the kitchen floor, I ended up with 22ltrs from 25 (wont be doing that again).
I added the finings, these were Still Spirits Turbo Clear, I added part A, gave it an hour and added part B, gave it a few more hours, until most of the solids were visible at the bottom. The wash was still cloudy so I filtered the wash with a Harris VinBrite filter, it took 3 filter pads and took 4 hours (perhaps I could have either waited another day or just used as was?) - anyway the result was a super clear straw like liquid. I tested it and the Hydrometer fell below 990 so I was happy at that.
Next Ill report on how it distilled.

ok, well I distilled it all, I ran 800ml off per fill up, and left the machine on for another 800ml after that.
I then re-distilled all the second 800mls in one go to get 800ml of about 75-80%. I bended all the 800ml batches together to get 4ltrs of 60%.
I suppose I should have re-distilled the 4ltrs again to get a more pure distilate, but it smelt and tasted ok so I left it.
I'm really pleased I started that batch of Turbo now, as the first batch I made is still fermenting
Regards
Ian

Nice work Ian, thanks for sharing it with us! This kind of thing is always useful, I've never tried that yeast so it helps to know what is tried and tested.
Cheers, happy drinking!
