Boil Enhancers
Morning everyone,
Today, her indoors decided to cut my lie in short by clattering her way through that one fearful cupboard in the kitchen. You know the one as I'm sure we all have one cupboard so full of random crap, odd bits of Tupperware, rarely used kitchen devices etc that you dare not open the door for the inevitable avalanche of plastic across the floor.
When I went to investigate the noise and grumpily put on the coffee machine, I'm met with the sight of my wife up to her waist in cupboard chuntering as she chases a million little beads round the inside of it. Seems she has tipped a whole bunch of "baking beads" out that have scattered in all directions
I've never seen her use them, didn't even know we had them but straight away I can think of a use for them! Does anyone know if these little ceramic things are safe in alcohol or used them in their boiler?

Re: Boil Enhancers
If they are ceramic, they will be as safe as the rashig rings sold in a HBS, is my guess.

I've never played with rashig rings either ED, are they enamelled in anyway? These little buggers are rough, possibly porous? if that matters?

Sounds like the finish of the rings I bought to use with the still, before going on to use only copper pieces.

Re: Boil Enhancers
They're round, just little balls of ceramic. You're going to tell me the surface area touching the bottom of the boiler will be too small aren't you?

Yup.
That is how it works.
I have seen small glass 'splats' used for baking. They would work.

Give them a go mate,I think they will work.
What do you have to lose?
Assuming that you don't have anything else...
And I sometimes ran my Smart Still with nothing but wash, certainly never "conditioner" or butter.

I think I will, currently I don't use anything so it's definitely a step up! I'll keep a magnet handy & start saving pennies as per the other thread that's going on regarding this at the moment but I'm going to use these next time & see what difference it makes

Re: Boil Enhancers
The only difference they should make is preventing a Surge boil, which may pop the lid off.
Get some copper pieces in there, and you really should notice a difference in taste of product.
Assuming it is a neutral that you want, then find a method of carbon filtering, and your product will be the bee's knees and the wasp's nipples!

Absolutely agree with both. Many of us have a mix. I also tried granite chips.
Another benefit is that you get to recognise the sounds your Still makes and what it is doing.
