When I refill my carbon filter I pass about 5lt of clean water through over 12 hours before allowing spirit near it and toss the water, of course ::)

I have bought some Aloctec Karbon 0.4 - 1.4mm to make a wine bottle filter.

Do I need to wash the carbon/ process it somehow... or can I just throw some in the wine bottle and pour my neutral on top?

regards,

I would run water through, until you are sure it is saturated, and the water is clean.
Then expect the first small quantity of spirit you filter to be well diluted.
To me,washing and loading wet carbon is not worth the effort.
I tried many methods before getting an Essencia, and simple dry refilling of the carbon filter of that, and running a liberal amount of water through works for me.

I forgot to add that when you're finished running the water through your filter, and it's ready for spirits, the first litre of spirit to come out will contain a small amount of water from the washed carbon. This first litre of spirit should simply be returned to the main batch of spirits to be re-filtered and it will make little difference to the ABV of the finished product ;)
