Re: What I Did Today
Palmed off a few bottle of dark rum to a friend of a friend. I had a grin like a split watermelon from the superlatives of my tipple he gave me.
Felt like a bootlegger darting around the countryside with the hooch stashed in the boot.

I decided to drink my FSW whilst reading kindle-based 'dross' for 'work reasons'......needless to say, I had enough of that quickly (ie the reading
) ...
and now I'm trying to comprehend if Scarecrow; in the prev post; has just 'publicly' labelled me as 'A FRIEND'.....

Made a start of some some limoncello, then made some very tart real lemonade, which turns out is really nice with a spot of rum.
The missus has just come home from a works thing with 2kg of frozen rasps, so will be making some raspberry schnapps after dinner.

Re: What I Did Today
I could not sleep this morning, so I was up and about before the rest of the world and had the kitchen to myself.
I decided to filter off a gallon of rum that I had on Oak and raisins. It seemed a pity to throw the raisins so I put a few of them on my muesli for breakfast. This was a very bad idea.

Re: What I Did Today
Today I have had an excellent day, I got my hands on a new collet body that defuses gas from the front. I saw people talking about them - excellent piece of kit. I need to buy more and put them away. May have to do a bit of welding tonight and play with my new toy.

Clean the still so ready for a spirit run on Monday. Then off to the beach for a cool off. Afternoon - cricket on the Intercontinental Hotel oval. Evening - back to the beach for some evening cocktails and to deliver a gin order.

Re: What I Did Today
Last Thursday was my birthday and my wife and I went to overnight in Dublin to have a night out there. As we were staying in an hotel I packed a bottle for each of us for the hotel room. Having just finished making a batch of nuked sour mash type whisky I decided to take a bottle of that and so I filled a 70cl bottle and off we went.
On the drive to Dublin it suddenly occurred to me that the Whisky had not been diluted and was still 62.5% ABV. Nice but not what I wanted so, I decided to dilute it when we got to the hotel and, without thinking, bought a bottle of Ballygowan mineral water for the purpose!
I did the deed and had a few drinks before we went out and a nightcap when returned - it was a delightful tipple
However, when we returned home I was unpacking the few things we had brought home, one being the bottle of my Whisky, and to my surprise the remaining Whisky had become a green cloudy liquid
It appears the minerals in the mineral water had been affected by the alcohol, solidified and flocculated
OMG as they say!
A couple of coffee filters later and the spirit was back to its crystal ruby clarity and seem none the worse for the experience but I have put it in a prominent position in my kitchen and will keep it under observation for the next while to see if anything else develops.
Anyone else come across this or have a qualified explanation?

Re: What I Did Today
I only use Pureau water to dilute with. http://www.noblebeverages.com/why-purea ... -analysis/
Much cleaner palate than my tap water.
I'm thinking your mineral water may be high in calcium and other minerals that have had an adverse reaction with the hooch.
I sometimes get a snotty precipitate after I add a smidge of pure maple syrup. But I only see this after I dilute to 40%. I chill the bottle and then filter through a cotton ball filter and all is good.
