Lentil Wash
Re: Lentil Wash
Same as always - alinsons. 50g
Not sure, I just threw it in as usual lol..... it bubbled like MAD for a week or so, calmed down week 2 a bit, and was nearly done by the end of week 3

I admire your tenacity and patience as I would have had it down the drain if mine took anything like that long
Maybe something needs tweaking to get your ferments to run a little faster.....unless you're happy with the time frame
I'm pretty sure we had a discussion hereabouts, some time back, which determined that using Pearl Barley probably wouldn't produce a great result. Have to say I'm not too sure why pulses seem to work but dried grains don't seem to have what it takes but that's been my experience anyway.

Sounds like this started well, and slowed.
My guess would be low Ph,but as it seems the wash has been run,we will never know.
Robert.

Wheat and/or malt are by far the best washes I have done. Noticeably better than lentil in a side by side run.
Ferments are not mechanical [there are lots of organic variables] so sometimes get a mind of the own.
I never bother with PH but I will monitor and see what happens next time.

Re: Lentil Wash
The different might be dried whole grains vs the nutrient poor polished grains that people eat. I've used crushed malted barley before and the yeast seems quite pleased with it.

Aye never took a PH reading tbh.... and 3 weeks timeframe - in honesty it was down to laziness and other priorities lol.
I have also found I dont have an arse like a water cannon after drinking it compared to the lentils which, lets face it..... are toilet KILLERS!

Re: Lentil Wash
When I said "dried grains" I was, of course, referring to things like Pearl Barley and other polished grains for eating but not whole grain barley, malted or not, which are excellent sources of nutrient for yeast in a wash

OK! Not quite following you there Jimmy. It might be the accent that's throwing me
Are you talking about the condition of your arse after eating them or drinking alcohol made using them??
You also said:

As long as it's crushed it'll do fine

I've had no ill effects from drinking lentil vodka. Well, not on that end of my body anyway.

Re: Lentil Wash
Are you sure you're double distilling?
I can well imaging that effect form drinking a bottle of stripped lentil wash
Oooh! The pain of it

Re: Lentil Wash
I pondered joining in here,as it sure does read odd.
bg,if you aren't double distilling, please give it a bash, your taste buds and bowels will love you for it.
Or,continue drinking single strip,it is a free world, and your choice.
I may pass on any drinks invite that you may offer.
Robert.

Haha, I will give it a bash next time. Tbh it tastes just fine done once tho.... only the rear end issues the morning after LOL.
I tried leaving a bottle with a piece of burned apple cedar wood in it for 3 months - quite nice
Might also experiment with aging with various woods in the future
