Tronozymol Wash
As a trial, I'm going to put on a Tronozymol wash to see how it performs during fermentation & report back on its taste (neutralness)
I'm also going to try and keep the recipe as easy as possible to pull together.
here is the recipe
Updated: Now corrected to 5kg.

Re: Tronozymol Wash
I am thinking a splash of lemon (citric acid) might have been good - lets see.

Re: Tronozymol Wash
5.5 kg of sugar ?
When you search for the JAO mead recipe, that uses bread yeast as well. While Joe's instructions don't mention the use of a hydrometer to measure progress etc, quite a few have done just that.
The result being that bread yeast can do about 12% ABV so with that in mind, when making a sugar wash with complete yeast nutrient (whatever brand), isn't it easier to crunch the numbers so that you don't end up with any residual/unfermented sugars ?
I'm guessing that 5.5kg might be a bit too much for the yeast (no guarantee, properly managed I'd guess it's possible to exceed that number - given that it is rather speculative)......
Maybe 5kg max is what I'm thinking (and not having bothered to do the experimentation etc)........
Plus, what's the idea of the B1 and epsom salts ? Tronozymol is one of the "complete" nutrient products that is "supposed" to have all the requisite elements......

Re: Tronozymol Wash
John. I agree and well spotted. This is a 5kg recipe.
I will correct the PDF and replace it.
Vit B1 - I couldn't find a definitive list of the ingredients for trono, so I made sure
Epsom salts it a water treatment that I picked up AG brewing and it sort of stuck. Probably should check out its credentials agian.

Re: Tronozymol Wash
I am certain it contains Epsom salts (Magnesium Sulphate) also.
Read a list of ingredients,not proportions,once.
Is it wrong to add more be sure to be sure?
Robert.

Re: Tronozymol Wash
Probably not. I have added a whole Tablespoon to a wash before without noticeable bad results.

Re: Tronozymol Wash
In this case I don't think it will hurt. Especially as this is not be present the finished product
Might make the recipe simpler next time.
Has anyone found a full list of what tronozymol contains and %

Not sure how much actual detail is on the tronozymol packs - it's why I like to get hold of one of the Fermaid range for my "complete" nutrients - there's so much more data available about them (probably because they're popular in the US home brew market).
I'm suspecting it shouldn't make much difference, though whether there might be some "carry over" of flavour in the distillate could be a different matter - though WTF, experiment and see eh !

Re: Tronozymol Wash
Yeah. The bit I was struggling with is ... "trace minerals and vitamins"
I would think that the manufacturers don't want to reveal the details for commercial reasons However that does hinder users.
It is also the reason I will not use this "as a matter of course" in my wines.
