Essencia Filter - wow
After reading a few threads on here about the Essencia Filter system I decided I was going to bite the bullet and shell out the £80 to get one, almost every HBS i called only had the Still Spirits EZ Filter for £53ish, but I eventually found a place that ordered the Essencia in for me to pick up on Friday.
Anyway after making my first neutral by stripping it on my big 50lt boka, then making some spirit cuts on my airstill I had about 3lt of neutral @40% that I was quite proud of, anyway after soaking the two Essencia filters and running some water through the hole thing over night, I loaded it with the spirit, I discarded the first 400ml as suggested by others, as it was just the last of the water, after a few hours I had a good amount of filtered spirit in the bottom, and the taste!!!
All I can say is "WOW" what a difference, I have what I consider an exceptional Vodka, I was expecting to have to use a vodka essence but there was absolutely no need, the smell and taste was perfect, if anyone's looking at one of these systems I can't recommend one highly enough.

Yes,they are the DB's for cleaning up a neutral,to something better.
Mine gets occasional use,for odd uses.Today I just happened to have re-carboned mine and saw your post, and felt the need to reply.
I also recommend to one and all.
Robert.

Re: Essencia Filter - wow
I just decided to pour a litre of already filter spirit back through the Essencia filter, plus I added the amount that lives below the tap in the bottom of the collection vessel, mainly to see if it improves by a second filtering.
But it has got me thinking about the life of the carbon filter, so far it's only done 3 litres of its 45 litre life expectancy, and I'm thinking that putting a litre of already fitered spirit back through it should count as less than a litre as it's already very clean and won't "soil" the filter as much as unfiltered neutral, anyone agree?

What's the trick for replacing the carbon in the Essencia filter? I had a look around but couldn't find it.

Not done it myself yet as I'm still on my first filter, but what I've read is to open the top off the filter by banging it upside downing a hard surface to release the glue used to hold the top in, only new filters are glued, older ones can be opened by grabbing the middle of the top with some pliers and twisting/pulling it out, not sure but I guess it could be a messy excersize if the carbon get out everywhere

Quite easy to do but you must have the right size carbon.

Thanks AM exactly the thread I was looking for. Misspelling Essencia in the search box didn't help.
