Advice needed :).....Again :)

Postby shawry99 » Tue Jul 10, 2012 6:13 pm

Hi guys, currently running my 5th run through the Air still, however I have about 3.5 ltrs of a pretty unclear wash (due to siphoning badly)

Am i best just binning this, or is it possible to put it through the still to get as much as I can, to add to my next wash? Or is that not how I should be doing it?

I'm conscious that Im happy with the results of my 5 runs, knowing how better filtering, and double distilling would make further improvements, would running less than 4 ltrs, of a cloudy wash create issues I would be better off avoiding by not being greedy?

Thanks again :)

The issue that you might get is that the top can lift off the still and 'burp' some of the hot wash, which can be messy and potentially dangerous if it goes onto your electrics/you/the wife.

Up to you, depends how cloudy it is but if you have enough to drink already, safest way would probably be to add it to the next wash before you clear it. You might well be able to run it without any problems, but if you do I'd certainly stick fairly close by and maybe run it away from plug sockets etc and on a big towel just in case. Your call! :)

I didnt think to add it to wash prior to clearing, that makes much more sense :)

Cheers matey :)

I've realised I've drunk more in the last few days than I've done in a month :)

I'm with Jimmy on that - no rush with running wash like that. Running clear wash is the best way to ensure you'll never have to deal with a puke where your boiling wash gets chucked everywhere.

It might take a little longer but we're worth it. :D :D :D

Patience is key.

I went on holiday and left a vodka star wash which was ready for finings on the kitchen table.

I came back ten days later and it was as clear as a bell.

No need for the finings.

Time and gravity will draw the dense material to the bottom of the fermenter. If you want to be posh you can tell the wife that she can not move the bin as your yeast is flocculating.
