Well I did not do it today, but earlier this week we returned from a Caribbean Cruise. We had tons of fun and visited several wonderful islands, I did not get to visit any rum distilleries this time but found some good rum on St Lucia, and sampled lots in most places, I could not get any pitorro on Puerto Rico but found some rum that is not exported, shame though it tastes better than Capn morgan or Barcardi,,, Life ss gods, and time to check how my rum is aging,,, Cheers!!

I'm guessing Cape Bretton (if you is really living there),is something like Scotland, weatherwise, around about now.
Oh, for some Caribbean sunshine and heat.
Lucky you.

Twenty odd years ago,I spent a month with a Greyhound Rover ticket between Toronto and Vancouver, and then two weeks-(as Canadians don't have fortnights),in a rental car driving around between Toronto and Quebec.
Never had the time for the East coast, nor some of the Northern parts.
Maybe one of these days.
Very much like parts of Scotland, only bigger.
And Canada did recieve an awful lot of Scots from the Highland Clearances.
At least the winter weather will have been familiar to the poor buggers, the scorchio summers of the interior will have seemed totally alien.
Nice to think that some of them must have taken their experience of small scale distilling with them.

Packing my bags and getting things in order. Have to go and live somewhere else for a full calender month. So chose Australia. Will head back here in May. What a pain - I have a very limited wardrobe these days and can only find one shoe. Don't wear them anymore. Better go shopping I suppose.

Can't wait to be surrounded by real food. Being able to buy cheese and fresh milk. A choice of breads. Have been to Australia but never lived there. Should be interesting.

I lived in Asia for several years and know exactly what you mean. i loved it there, but still missed some really good fresh baked bread and butter or really nice cheese. And good french fries, and a well aged steak. Food, more than language and culture, is the hardest thing to move away from. You can love the food where you are, but you will always miss the food you grew up with.

Ran the numbers and began to get my house in order for a new run. I am going to craft a new rum as a tribute to those ANZAS's that served in Gallipoli in 1915. Before they went "over the top" they had a "gunfire breakfast" to help fortify them. This breakfast was shot of rum in their tea or coffee.

April 2015 is the 100 year anniversary of the Gallipoli Campaign. So a rum, crafted, bottled and labeled for the occasion is in order. Need to get it going so it has a little time to age.

I grew up with hard, stale bread, spam fritters, pork knuckles and fag ash in the lard in the frying pan.

I still hate them to this day!

Did you grow up on the same street as me?
Robert

Edit;Just read it again, and you were definitely on a posher street,I've never had a Spam fritter,my Spam only came wafer thin between two doorsteps of bread,no butter,a smear of Lard (with,or without fag-ash)if you were lucky...........
