Ay-up Kev, haven't seen you around on TBF for a while and wondered where you'd got to.

My local homebrew shop stocks the Still Spirits range so I've tried several of those, the Kentucky Bourbon is pretty good but I mostly use the regular Scotch Whiskey (sic) essence and then add extra peat smoke or oak keg flavouring notes.

Are you going to the Festival this year? I'd be happy to pick up some supplies for you.

Funny you should say that Ice, he offered to do that for me and I declined. ??? silly me.
Might take him up on the offer..

Not yet, Still has been on the back burner for a couple of weeks, been on decorating duties. :(

Thinking about making a bran flakes wash to try.... Do you think the cheapo Morrisons brand will be OK to use?

"decorating duties" Image Ye Gods....what did you do to justify that??? :D :D

I've never got around to doing a bran wash J, so can't say for sure. I've read good and bad reviews about some recipes. Someone on here may give more info on running one.

Kids??? who have um... :D :D

For your first wash John I don't think you can go wrong with the lentil one.

Then there's the basic sugar wash....quick and easy..as you will be using your pot still I would look upon it as a "learning run". Get to know your kit, the same as when you started AG brewing. If you have a cock up it don't matter, you'll learn by your mistakes.

If you can get the guy with the T500, being a reflux and run either wash you should get a passable Vodka at the end.

I didn't know anyone who did this hobby when I started, so it was a case of read everything I could, and just go for broke....I got there in the end...I think. :D :D

Thinking about biting the bullet and buying a T500 brand new.. Worries me to buy a second hand one that might have seen loads of action.

Air still v T500 now... Which way would you go?

GO T500 John....IMHO just add the extra money you would spend on an Air and buy a T. You'll have 25 liters to play with and you'll have more control over a reflux. You can make a pothead for it like some of us have....then you'll have both types.

I still think a second hand Airstill for 60 quid is a good buy. Lot less than a T500.

That's if you can find one for £60.....last one I see on Ebay went for well over a £100....just "my two pennies worth".

I've had the smart still for 2 years now but I'm getting a bit cheesed off with it's limited capacity. It takes me a good 10 days to put all the wash through and then redo it taking cuts etc.

So last night I got me a T500. It's second hand so I'll be changing the saddles and the batteries in the thermometer are duff. Can't wait to get stuck in, there's a wash ready in 2 or 3 days so that's the weekend job sorted.
