Another Newbie

Hello my name is Steve and I'm a Dist'aholic.
I've been lurking around here a few weeks so thought it's best to say hi!

I currently have an Airstill which has served me well using the guides from Aidanmac and Mozr from this very forum. If only these guides were part of the documentation that came with the still. I have learnt how to make something worth drinking from an innocent looking water still, and even though I think I have outgrown it, It will still come in handy, despite everyone that puts these "stills" down..

Because of what I have read here, and on some of the other forums, I will be making myself a more efficient pot still. Once I have that working how I want, I intend to make a bokakob or a manu style condenser control still, although that will be my long term plan (And If I'm happy with my pot it may not happen)....

Copper is on its way for the simple pot, photos soon, and If you can put up with me then I'm sure I'll have lots of questions (and hopefully be able to give some help too), especially with the boiler and how to make the mount..

Hi Steve..

Welcome. Its a great forum and as a newbie myself you will find out quickly how helpfull and fiendly folk are here.
Like yourself, only up untill last few weeks, I was also an airstill user. It started me off and it was to me the most important piece of distilling kit i will ever own...not because of its limitations or abilities....but solely because it started me along this road and helped me learn basic cuts etc.
I have just completed my first boka with the help of the guys on here. I cannot believe how it functions. It is why the airstills get a bad name but in all fairness they arre in a smaller class.
Whatever you do (build a boka, build a boka, build a boka lol) just practice good safety...
If you havent already guessed my advice is build a boka. It doubles up as a potstill. Mine on a stripping run dribbles a constant stream out...its unbeleivable how they work compared to the airstill drip drip drip....

Cheers
Rich

Just you wait until you have done a 25 litre spirit run on the Bok, drip drip drip - Seven hours of drip drip drip, but it's worth it - just get some good music going in the shed.
