The Essencia Carbon Filter uses superglue - safety concerns?

Postby bendraynor » Wed Sep 09, 2015 5:28 pm

Hi All,

First post. I was planning to try the Essencia carbon filter to see if makes my product better. However - I see from this forum that the maker now superglues the carbon filter lid down to try and stop people from refilling it.

Given that acetone dissolves superglue, and that our distilled product will have a small amount of acetone in it, doesn't this mean our final filtered product would have a small amount of dissolved superglue in it?

Maybe I'm being paranoid. Or perhaps not - would appreciate feedback from someone who knows about this stuff. I don't like the idea of drinking superglue!

If you are making your cuts properly, there should be an exceedingly tiny amount of acetone in the result. I would not feel concerned.

Yo,Firstly,Welcome!
I do not wish to take issue with my compatriot chill here.what he states is true, and possibly truer,-if you make cuts,as recommended on this site, the chance of ANY Acetone being in your spirit to be filtered is so low as to be totally ignored.
Just take a look at the Boiling point of Acetone.

The point I wish to make here is Superglue.
I know there have been posts here speaking of the difficulty of splitting the plastic sections of the filter.
And Super-glue,which only ever sticks my own fingers together, and not the requisite article has been mentioned.

Tell me,if You ran a factory/plant making these items, and could use a hot glue gun, fusing similar plastics,or a complex nozzle injecting Super-glue,which would you choose?
I believe that you are overthinking this.
