Stainless steel Fusti

Bottling and other storage issues

My understanding of distilling on the grain was that you simply warmed an all grain wash, big distilleries have an agitator to stop it sticking to the pot but other than that it was fermented and distilled in the same pot?
If I was to syphon it into another pot after fermentation then I wouldn't be including any grain would I?
That was my understanding anyway, inject steam through a mash/wash & hey presto??

Ok. With you now. I have to admit I had never heard of "on the grain" before. I suppose if you cut really accurately it's not an issue. But I would think it more risky that just racking at our volumes.

In spirit, beer and wine making it is very easy to emulate industry thinking they know best. They probably do, but their requirements are very different as are there motivations. Not saying don't do it, suppose I think it's better to see the bigger picture.

I have just had a Google "distilling on the grains" and they're is a lot of discussion around the subject. Flavour seems to be the issue.

As I said, punching above my weight! Perhaps somethings are best left until I can get my cuts right, can't honestly say I've made something I'm entirely happy with yet so it's perhaps where my energy is best spent. I will read through some more of the "on the grains" threads over on HomeDistiller & see if I can make more sense of the process, when the time comes for an experiment I will of course report back here. I also apologise if I wasn't making much sense but I have spent quite a lot of the last day or two with more than a few drinks in me :-[
Back to my other question though if anyone can help, are there any issues running a pot with a thumper that's bigger than the boiler? It's only going to be by 5 litres?

This is a total theoretical answer to your question, as I have not done it.
NO.
As I see it, the only downside to your proposal is a loss of heat/energy.

If no-one comes back with user experience and nay says your proposal, then give it a go and report back.

And don't apologise for functioning with excess ethanol inside you, it seems that I manage that trick more than I should.
My breathalyser, ensures that I don't hit the roads the next day before I ought to.

Anyone with a concern here, can find the info. on this site, or is free to pm me for a recommendation.

Stay safe, and keep others safe, but drink and have fun.

@Benoit: Your reference to distilling on the grain is correct. I have done it with my corn whiskey, but prefer not to.

Finally some photo updates, to the top men who operate this site the photo upload thingy still isn't working properly & I'm having to go the long way round. I click add image, upload the pic then instead of coming back to the draft message it puts me on the board index page.

I'll get some action shots with it all set up & running soon

Daft as it may seem, I can move this thread, I'll re-read it tomorrow and see if that seems the best option, but it does seem to be at the OP's behest,-
What I cannot do is sort the sites default photo uploading linky thing, only one person can tickle that bit of trickery.
And yes the Post Image site isn't currently working for me either, but I seem to recall that this issue comes and goes, and may be a problem with that site, not this one?

Thanks for the info Robert, the post image site does look as though it's had an update...maybe the 2 sites are no longer talking quite the same language? It's no great drama, just thought it worth a mention for those who need to know
