I am
We are safe, the area we live in was unaffected thank Jebus.
But, we have friends staying with us who have lost almost everything.
Spirits are up at the moment but its been a strange week.
We are now starting to clean up but its not nice, smelly sticky mud is everywhere in one friends house, all their possessions are either gone or not worth salvaging.
The water was half way up the roof - I kid you not, and we arent trying to clean up there.
The other couple fared a little better, downstairs in the home is a mess but everything upstairs is OK.
Thousands of homes without power for the week etc.
What you guys are seeing on the TV is only part of it, once we started driving through the areas where the water mark is almost at the tops of trees it really hit home and our friends broke down before we reached the house.
We have had nothing to do for most of the week other than deplete my stock\'s LOL.
I havent been around simply because we had more pressing things going on.
Cheers Gang.

Hi Andy, Glad to hear you and yours are safe. It was sad to hear about your friends loss and hard as it may be they at least have come out of it with their lives. I had a strange feeling you came from Brisbane as I had a vague recollection when I joined the forum of you inviting someone and friends in for a chat when they visited the area as they live quite near you. The Southern Hemisphere is taking a beating these last weeks with floods, quakes and the like.I never associated Australia with floods massive bush fires only stupid me. A friend of ours come over to Melbourne in a couple of weeks to stay. Australia House told them Brisbane was out of the question as it had reached its quota of immigrants and to choose somewhere else. They settled on Melbourne instead. I wont keep you hanging on as I know you guys are busy helping out. Our thoughts are with you all. Cheers Short

Hey guys.
Well, the floods are over and cleanup has begun, so we thought.
Yesterday we had king tides that caused a bit more mess for a few but not as bad.
All our friends are beginning to get their lives back on track as best as they can.
.
Short, your friends need to look closely at Melbourne - its flooding now and the weather down there is a bit like UK all the time.
.
So for me its back to normal, I have just started a SS Triple to compare against the Vodka Star.
Cheers

how will the triple go in the hotter climate at this time up there Andy
Its going like a train, blew all the water out the airlock over night LOL
I will let you know how it goes.

Judging from what was shown on the news, all the flooding thing was a total fucker for all concerned
That it was.
What you dont get on the telly is the smell when your amongst the aftermath, it fair stinks.
And seeing the water line 2 tiles down from the tip of the roofs of houses that are no where near water was a sobering sight.
One friend lost his car, I mean he just couldnt find it, we found it Friday about 2klm away from his home under a pile of trees in some bush land - its wrecked.

did you put turbo carbon in the triple wash Andy, and have you been putting it in the vodka star wash. Does it make any difference?
Andy mightn\'t, but as my local HBS sells the triple with carbon and finings, I routinely use it if supplied.
How much difference it actually makes (whatever the temperature of the ferment) I don\'t know. I\'m not really into doing side to side comparisons.
I\'m not sure whether it\'s the carbon or my methods of use, but I haven\'t had any wash that\'s fermented in such a way, as to leave any kind of after taste or discolouration. Sure, I might have been lucky, and of course, I routinely double distil to try and attain the highest level of purity that I can with the kit I have, so maybe that\'s got more to do with it.
It seems to make little difference, whether it\'s SS triple, Vodka Star, or some other turbo type yeast. I suspect it\'s about cautious management of the kit, which is likely to give the cleanest resulting spirit......
You may find differently though, given different conditions locally, water (taste and quality), etc. Let us know how you get on dict8
Always happy to learn from others experiences......

Ive just put on my 2nd and 3rd batches. I\'m using Vodka Star in both, one with carbon and one without and will compare the results.
My first wash was ss classic and I wasn\'t over the moon about the smell as I suppose everyone isn\'t, and I thought the alcohol didn\'t smell the best, but it was my first batch so I might be expecting to much. Ive got a couple of the triple distilled but will probably wait and see how the Vodka Stars turn out and give them a run when its a bit cooler.
