Turbo 500 no tails?

Postby guest5234 » Wed Oct 19, 2016 2:20 pm

Got my t500 today and reading through the instructions has confused me somewhat, it reads...Distill the wash.no need to throw away the first 50ml if using the "pure turbo yeast" run till it stops producing, the t500 does not produce tails as pot stills do, the distillate will be very pure untill the end. Double distilling is not necessary with the t500
All I have read is getting the hearts and tails?

I though the same when I got my t500 but experiance tells me this is not true.

I would get lots of mason jars (59p from home bargains) and collect the run in 100mls. The next day taste the samples, on a tea spoon, 50/50 with water, you will be able to work out where the heads hearts and tails are.

It's very overwhelming at first but actually really easy.

Thanks, do you yourself throw the first 100ml away and then collect the heads and tails for the next wash?

One Q comes to mind...are you doing a strip run followed by a spirit run???

You must throw the first 100ml....it's crap, and won't do you any good at all.

One last thing with any info that came with the kit....cut it into small squares, thread onto a short length of string and hang in the toilet... ;)

Read the T 500 section on here and then ask any Q's you want...that's what we're here for.. ;D

The "good" thing about the turbo 48 yeast that comes with the still is it will give you strong (in the smell and taste sense) heads and tails.

The instructions for the T500 assume you are going to carbon filter. Robert will be along later to point out that you can't polish a turd.

Like most newbies here I had to learn for myself and try and drink the first batch of booze I made after a single run. It was awful. Luckily all I had to do was water it to 30% and do another run to make it less bad.

Trial and error means just water to 30% and run it again if you get your cuts wrong.

The only "turbo" yeast I've seen spoken well of and tried successfully myself is vodka star. I hear super 6 is OK too.

I am always willing to learn ;D
And, yes, most of us learn the hard way.
Some commercial "quick yeasts" seem OK,some less so.
It doesn't take too much time to find a home alternative, if you care too.
Different strokes for different folks.

Yeah, Sorry, that should have read as don't use turbo 48 in particular and if you must use a turbo, try vodka star.

I have done several lentil washes as per your recipe, several cachaca (golden syrup) washes and am currently sipping on my first molasses rum. I haven't tried kale as wife would kill me for the smell and am approaching wheat etc washes.

Don't apologise mate,I have a fairly thick skin.
When I joined this site I was banging the drum for Turbo 48.
My taste buds have since re-booted.
