Kitchen fitting at the mo..

Postby Spirits4BB » Wed Mar 30, 2016 9:40 am

I'm not dead or quit my fellow stillers..... Sorting kitchen out with new units.
Prices have gone up since I bought my last from MFI in 1995... :(

Had to put new still plans on hold for around 6 months. ::)

Having to payout for a spark too with all this certification malarkey.. Years ago I did it all myself..

That's a bummer when it's probably work you're quite capable of.

Can you not do the work yourself and then just get it signed off by a sparky? Do you know anyone in the trade?

Had you considered doing it and then getting it inspected? like Landlords do. Although it does depend on if it is new or just a replacement.

Isn't that what we were already talking about?

But what is this "certification malarkey" ? Is this for owners, landlords or tenants?

The halogen lighting in our kitchen and bathroom was installed years ago by the previous owner ::)

There is stuff you can do as a'competent person' and there is stuff now that must be done by a quad ufo electrician.

Some electricians blur the line in their favour.

Rented property needs electrical (and gas) safety certificate. Landlords responsibility to maintain this.

Do the work and describe it as historic when you sell the house.
A supply of old black/red coded cable can help here, unless you are in a recent build ;D

I recently had a couple of what appeared to be pubescent schoolboys sign off their work, piggy backing off some of mine, because they had a few letters after their names.

From my understanding, Mrs Ice has placed an embargo upon 'stilling activities whilst traversing this sceptered isle of ours.
Seems reasonable to me.
I would rather do it on Terrra Firma.
And in the man cave .

New still on hold, after totting up all the bits from China and the crap exchange rate in dollars plus import duty and VAT I decided to crack on with kitchen to keep her happy..

Might go back down the T500 route again when the time is right.
