Kits or proper like
The joy of distilling has pushed my wine making right to the back of the queue for free time.
Still like a drop of wine but only ever make it from kits.
Distilling took over so I never progressed.
Still do the odd wine kit to keep me going though.
Are you kit or proper like?

Re: Kits or proper like
I always use kits unless making meade.
the kits have improved so much over the
last 10 years. You can make some very
good quality wine with no fuss or mess.
Just bottled 5 gallons of Merlot,
should be a nice wine in 6 weeks or so

Seagull, if you do your own beer, again
I do mostly kits. Try the Russian Imperial
Stout from love brewing, not cheap, but
worth every penny. strong, dark and full
of flavour.

Wine: I might do the occasional kit if I see something that takes my fancy and the price is right. I make a lot of fruit juice wines, and most years I make 10-15 gallons of blackberry & elderberry from foraged fruits.
Beer: Proper like. But I have done with all that fly sparging malarkey and switched to BIAB.

My next whisky wash will be BIAB.
I make a lot of mess going the regular route, it has to be worth a try.

I do a bit of both, the fruit wines can be an acquired taste and take ages to clear
Having said that I've usually got 6 Demi's on the go and I do 30 bottle kits for the Mrs.

Re: Kits or proper like
Someone recently gave me a 30 bottle Merlot kit, a year out of date, it is years since I have used one of these, it has now almost finished fermenting.
Quite exciting.
What is wrong with me?
This is old school stuff.
