Vodka is tough with an AirStill as the distillate carries a strong sweetish taste. Aggressive carbon filtering is the best you can do, I think. Pot stills are not the best choice for a Vodka.

That's true, makes my Pepsi max taste like full fat pepsi ;D but the double distil removes the strong rum taste I was getting :)

My wife, a serious consumer of good quality Vodka, wouldn't drink any kind of 'Vodka' type spirit from my Airstill but since I started running my 50lt Pot she demands her cut of the product from each run. :D

The difference between Airstill and 50lt Pot Still is huge. Even with a sugar wash you get true neutral. The real trick for making good Vodka from the Airstill is all-grain wash instead of sugar. ;)

thanks aidanmac i will save the voddie for the all grain wash, which il do
in a couple of weeks time, but il be doing a ss triple distilled +carbon wash
then im gonna look into vodka star for the next wash

would it be a good idea to give the airstill a clean out ie put some still cleaner and water and leave it for half hour while switched on

tia..

Definitely give the Airstill a run with the cleaner and 4lt of water in just until you get a few drops from the output then switch off and let it cool. BTW don't buy that cleaner from a HBS go to a pharmacy and buy a tub of Citric Acid and use two teaspoons and time you need to clean the still. Citric Acid is normally used for descaling taps, kettles, etc. ;)

I only clean my Airstill after a complete stripping run - that's after 6 X 4lt runs - so it will be ready for the spirit run.

but dunno if it's citric acid it does not say on packet will
give it a clean later,I'm gonna take the advice what you have
me via pm and use vodka star and not the ss turbo yeast
