OK, I was about to post that this thread was completely off the rails, and then I spotted the above amongst the replies.

Call to order, order, please!
Thank's Mash.

Yesterday I started my first Kale wash. Today I ran the last of my Vodka Star washes.
The wife walked into the brew shed this after, first thing she said was "have you dropped one"
POO what a smell she said, she got the normal reply, "I can't smell anything".
Always give the hardest job to the laziest person because they will always find the easiest way to do it.

LOL!
I'm starting to wonder if some gents here use Kale to keep their ladies from the brew shed or mancave? ;D

Gotcha. Does the VS make a difference to the flavour?

Yes it has no taste with the Allinsons
or as little as none. Usual offish with
the VS.
Allinsons =2weeks+ on 4kg T&L
VS= 8days on 12KG
By the time its double run and filtered
both great results.
Normally do 3x25ltr washes with Allinsons
strip and that gives me a nice full
charge in the T500.
Cost has to come into it Mash.
Kale 50p-12kg T&L £6-VS £1.92 =£8.42 per 50lt wash
Kale75p- 12kg T&L £6 Allinsons £1= £7.75 for 3x25l washes
Rather have a full bottle in front of me
than a full frontal lobotomy

I'm not surprised you are getting 'off' flavours putting that much sugar in the VS
I use 5kg and it's clean as you like run twice with no filtering

Ah, been planning to double batch myself.
Are you using two packets of VS?

I would use 10kg sugar in a 50lt wash, my batches are normally 40lt these days and I use 8kg sugar, I always aim for 1kg sugar to every 5lt of wash, I also found one VS will work, just takes a little longer to get going.

Agreed. The age old ratio of 1 bag per gallon.

Can't help but think the VS doesn't add anything positive here.

150g of bakers would cost 60p so it is most cost effective.

VS is just much quicker Mash
and is quite cheap ATM. £1.92
per pack.
Oh yes 1 pack 12 KG took almost
4lts hearts at 92%. Good product
no going to bother with filtering,
That will be just over 9ltrs.

Can you get that without the kale though ? or put another way.. is the Kale bringing any noticeable benefit to a VS wash?
