Sugar
Living in a small town i think my local shops are starting to think im a bit odd with the amount of sugar im buying
Does anyone know of any online sources where i can buy it in bulk and have it delivered for a decent price?
The only bulk sugar i can find online seems to be more expensive than buying it locally
Infact any cheap sugar sources would be appreciated the cheapest i can get is £1.89 for 2kg from tescos there must be a better source.

Re: Sugar
I went to a local Cash & Carry wholesaler and told them I was exploring the possibility of starting a business and needed bulk supply of sugar to make samples. They let me open a cash only account so I can go in and buy 25Kg bags for cash anytime. That was just over a year ago. Sugar here in Ireland costs me 1.04 Euros per Kg (about £0.84) while in Tesco it's around 1.20 Euros. Not much of a difference but as Tesco says "Every little helps".

Bill, bog standard SS triple distilled yeast, carbon and clear. I tried the SS Classic Single Malt Whiskey at the LHB shop and really liked it so I've got a gallon's worth for my first stillin session, next week hopefully.

Was in Tesco yesterday and picked up 4x5kg at 3.99ea. Best price I've found.

My nearest costco is 25 miles away unfortunately >:(
I dont understand why the bulk prices online are so expensive.
Keep updating with any deals you find i might try approaching a few local bakeries see if they can hook me up.

Re: Sugar
My wife is most impressed with me at the moment, now that I have taken an interest in the weekly shop.
I signed up for this one
http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/
It is a price comaparison site for all the large supermarket chains. It seem very good and up to date.
Go to the grocery section, type in sugar and have a look, it will give you the price for all the stores carrying the same item.
Whitworths Granulated Naturally Sweet Sugar (5Kg)is only available at Tesco for 3.99
Silver Spoon Granulated Sugar (5Kg) is 3.99 from Sainsbury's and 4.51 from Asda.
It appears that you can also buy on-line also.

Re: Sugar
I did read somewhere that the cheapest sugar used in food manufacturing was corn syrup which is very high in fructose. Don't know how or where you would buy it or how much it would cost or min orders etc. Don't know much really just that it's supposed to be a cheap source of sweetness.

Re: Sugar
I have bought stuff imported from the states and it was very expensive - I guess its cheap near where it is produced.

Re: Sugar
By stuff I assume you mean corn syrup as they grow a lot of corn in the states. No good if its dear here. Pity. Probably cheap when you are getting it as it is produced as you say and probably in multiple tons at that. Must be a market there for some rich entrepreneur to make it cheaper than sugar to the end user. Temptation is to always make it a speciality product competing with honey, agave syrup and the rest of the fructose sources. More profit. Shame. Tate and Lyle produce a lot of refiners invert syrup I hear. Don't know how that works out either.
