What I Did Today
Re: What I Did Today
I believe the concern is that I am the the nieghbour's keyholder for security and other reasons.and have access to the outside of his gunsafe.
And where I am, BB guns and their like are going to need a licence pretty soon.
The same act of parliament deals with certain sex acts,it is a total joke.
Strangely it doesn't mention my 50 year old "GAT" type pistol, which is not an "AIR-GUN".
Robert.

They take FAC's seriously wherever. Though I seem to recall that part of the blame for the Dunblaine debacle was lain at the door of Stratclyde.
After that and Hungerford, it was easy for the media to whip up a knee-jerk froth resulting in the current situation. Yet despite two shameful failures, there's more illegal weapons in circulation than ever. And while the two aforementioned incidents were connected to licensed holders (and complete fuckwits), there is still a need for some licenses etc (a friend has one with the annotation for shooting from the public highway - he farms wild boar).........
If someone has or wants a FAC or to a lessor extent a SGC, the authorities check with the proverbial fine toothed comb, plus not forgetting that the public have all seen the Clint Eastwood/Bruce Willis/etc etc films and other Hollywood nonsense, so they "MUST" be expert and have an input........

Re: What I Did Today
I an not against any gun needing a license, but am sage enough to see that licensing does not solve the problems.
Illegal firearms will continue to flourish in the UK.
For many reasons.
Licensing merely means that miscreants are guilty even before appearing in court.
But if you are a bad assed bro',making a living on the street, then are you going to give an illegal weapon a second thought?
I think that I can trump Phantom's boar reference, spoke to a guy last week who had just filled a slot on his FAC to fire flaming projectiles into gas erupting from North Sea oil rigs,to cause a burn off.
Job of work, when you are there, but, you have to take the instrument, and permission home.

Re: What I Did Today....
"or what we did yesterday"...
We're away this week in the camper, over North Lincs way...so we had a tour around George Bateman & Son brewery at Wainfleet, very interesting they've been brewing for 141 years.. this made me think I must pull my socks up as I've not done a brew in yonks...spending too much time on other things.
After lunch we did something we haven't done for around 30 years....
we went to the cinema..
OAP price £15
never mind we did enjoy it...first time for a 3D on the big screen..well worth it, now SWMBO wants a 3D tv
Today we're off to The Bubblecar Museum....nearly the end of our stay this side the UK, heading home tomorrow...but "we'll be back" as Arnie says...

Re: What I Did Today
Only ever done one brewery tour and that was a couple of visits to St Austell Brewery. I always remember their refridgerated yeast room been bigger than our kitchen.
Today its been a few hours down the beach with the kids. My boy had a great time bodyboarding and it was lovely and warm. The wife works most Saturdays so we just take down a few bits from my camping gear. Mainly use a great little water boiler which is called an Mkettle and use a Trangia burner with it. If I use a trivet on top of the burner,I can then cook up some hotdogs in the can or make some egg butties. Kids love it having their lunch on the beach.
Now just about to scrub a fermenter for my first lentil brew.

Good to hear.
There is nothing sadder than an empty fermenting vessel.
Well, maybe an empty still?
Robert.

I asked about the yeast they use....it's not top secret...but it's stored at another location..
they use the on-going batch for a number of brews then bring a fresh starter in.I tried to be normal once, worst two minutes of my life.

Re: What I Did Today
Must of us have heard about re-using yeast or terms like "washing yeast".......
I understood that after about 3 cycles, it's prone to mutate.
No longer giving the same flavour profile etc.........

Yup..that's what Bateman's do on 4 brews, it takes 70/90 liters per brew...then a new batch of yeast is used.

I've never understood why I'd want to even to think about recycling yeast.
Now after seeing how short a usage cycle it has, I know why.
Daft notion.
