Stripping Run Then Spirit Run
Over the last year I've got to know my T 500 well( i still think there is a lot i can learn from this forum ) Anyway I've read countless times Stripping Run then spirit run, so i thought i would give it ago. Ran the stripping runs fast and then watered the 92% that i get out down to 30%. Once i had 25 lites of 30% i ran the spirit run nice and slow. I tried to do the cuts but i just don't get it sorry. first 150 ml's i use for window cleaner, but the rest made the BEST vodka I've tasted. So it does take me awhile to get there but i'm sold DO IT. Take this for someone that thought he knew better I DIDN'T. from now i will be doing this all the time yes it slows you down a little but the results speak volumes
thanks for reading

Re: Stripping Run Then Spirit Run
Glad to see youve found your feet with your T500, iv'e been doing double
reflux runs for some time now and agree it makes a far better product.
What i tend to do these days, do all my nuetral strips and store them
in 2ltr cider jugs. When needed i use two jugs of 94% strip and dilute
to 30% and do my slow run. I dont drink much vodka, this is enough for my
needs, i never enjoyed sitting over the boiler for 9 hours doing a full
charge.

Single run with the T500 is pretty damned good.
Double run is better.
Double run is better.

Re: Stripping Run Then Spirit Run
I hope you have that 94% securely locked away.
Not only is it flamable it would be very bad if anyone (child?) drank it by mistake. I never store anything over 60% just to be safe.
I once tried to bring back a bottle of bacardi 151 (75.5%) and was refused on the grounds that it was classified as Dangerous Air Cargo.

No worries Myles, all high proof is kept outdoors in a well
locked tool chest.
Iv'e tasted that bacardi 151, never again, i thought it was
bloody awful.

Ok.....so am gonna purchase a t500 as the airstill although served me well takes forever.
If I'm doing a stripping run shall i purchase the condenser only and not the dome and only use that then my spirit run through the reflux tower.
Cheers Paul

Re: Stripping Run Then Spirit Run
You're on the same journey as me Paul. I have ordered the condenser and copper dome for stripping runs. So far, I've only done single runs through the T500 as per the instructions. That has been OK after filtering.
Looking forward to finding out the difference stripping and taking cuts makes. From what I've read from those who know on here, it makes the world of difference.
Will be interesting to compare our experiences.

Yeah it will....I started doing double distilling on the air still couple of months back....difference is really good, but like I said its time consuming so need to venture on.
Started building a tower as I have a keg to transform, but same again its getting the time to make it up....so T500 it is instead.

I love my T500. Once you get the hang of the temperature control, it's a breeze to run.
