Why an Outdoor Wood Boiler Is Efficient and Less Costly

In Canada we have lots of home owners using this method to heat their homes..
I have an oil fired boiler and a traditional wood stove and would like to convert to an outdoor wood fired boiler if I could,, It would not be a difficult convert if we decided to go with it..

Wood for burning is not a common resource in the UK. I guess you have a lot more trees in Canada than we do

Everyone is right. I have three woodburners. The smallest is used all winter. The other two are used occasionally. I fuel the small one mostly on skip wood and sawdust mixed with biodiesel byproduct. It is great for me but would all dissapear if everyone tried to do it. So I occupy my resource niche happily and for the most part quitely.

What would make it more efficient is an outside source of combustion air to avoid sucking all the hot room air up the chimmeny. Hence the popularity of outdoor boilers in Canada. You can duct air in though for even greater efficiency. I keep meaning to get around to that...

I think they are perhaps more common than you think in the country.

The latest biomass log boilers are supposed to be very good. Mate of mine has a wood chip boiler. Pellet boilers are becoming popular too. The pellets are recycled scrap wood.

We have two fireplace type woodburners for the winter.
