Is brass ok for a still?
I\'m connecting the various bits up now and hunting for those I don\'t have such as a flange to connect 15mm copper pipe to the stainless steel still lid.
is it safe/ok to use brass fittings or not?

Hi H2SO4.5 when i made my 20 ltr pot still i used a brass fitting what you need is a tank connector, from any plumbers merchants about £2-3. i used a piece of sheet cork to make a gasket between the stainless lid and the lock nut on the tank connector
a woman drove me to drink and i didn;t even have the decency to thank her

Many (?most) types of brass contain a small amount of lead. Whether that matters, I don\'t know -- it\'s a small amount, it\'s not volatile, and there\'s not much brass in the vapour path. I suspect it only matters -- and maybe not even then -- if it\'s in contact with the condensed liquid.

As I understand it, normally, it would be a no-no, but as there\'s only the smallest amount of brass actually exposed to the hot vapour I\'d have thought it\'d be Ok.
