New Oak barrel for whisky or old one?
Looking at a barrel for when I brew whisky, any advise or links...these ones seem reasonable but are chestnut? 30 litre one.

Whisky distillers don't use owt but Oak, but why not?

Don't worry about it going "off", it won't at cask strength ABV.(Like 60%+) it is just the speed of the fill

As this would be a significant outlay for a product made from a wood that most whisky producers might avoid it may be well to check around to see if any others have had any experience in using it.
So far as I am aware, chestnut produces a distinct flavouring and colouring of its own. But then again, many urban myths are alive and well even if inaccurate!
However, 30 litres at cask strength is a lot of product to place in a wood one is unsure about.

Is there something about the surface area to the whisky? does it work well?
