A new Magazine for distillers

I have just released a new magazine for distillers...all distillers, it is called the modern distiller . it features articles and tips from a diverse range of distillers...I hope you enjoy it.It will be a regular publication so keep an eye out.

Just letting everyone know that the next issue is already in progress...the lead story is on Vodka with a great article on the history of vodka by Edwin Atkinson who was the head of the British Vodka and Gin association for 12 years...also a comparison between 2 new distilleries in Seattle on how they make their Vodka...there will be a section on whiskey making...and I am hoping to do a feature on this fantastic forum...so if you are reading this Jimmy I will PM you some questions....Also remember the magazine is a collaborative effort, so if any of you have ideas for an article, follow the generous example of your fellow forum members and PM me...all members are welcome...if you are inexperienced that is fine as your experiences can help others in your position...Thank you to those who have already given of their time.

well Magnu I would hope that we can have something on Airstills in every publication..but have to say I am not an airstiller..so I do rely on the generosity of those who are to submit airstill articles (hint, hint)...I do however see the airstill as an important piece of equipment as it is single handedly introducing a whole new generation of stillers to the craft...and as Aidan and Frank et al have shown, in the right hands are a capable and practical way to safely make spirits...so I guess you would have to say I am a fan....The magazine is there for all distillers, and I will endevor to see that every level and distilling style gets representation.

It was an airstill that got me started, still using it and am getting a well rated (by others) product. 5 hours for a bottle is a bit long but on the bright side, any time I'm stuck indoors for 5 hours means I get a bottle.

hey John...The airstill was not invented when I started...in those days we used to rely on home build or in my case an imported New Zealand made still...which did me proud for a decade or more...but looking back if I had the option, the airstill would have been my choice...I was living in a small shared apartment and used to drive my flatmates crazy taking over the kitchen and the sink for hours at a time...(that was until they discovered that home made vodka was delicious)...but the point being that some distillers are less than complimentary about airstills never having used one....I really think that this came about through people expecting that they could get a drinkable spirit in one run...and then complaining that even with filtration they could taste the congeners...advanced airstillers such as Aidanmac are putting these Dalek's of distilling in their rightful place by promoting a 2 run then filter regimen...which seems to have helped the airstill to take it's place amongst viable alternatives for those who do not have the space or inclination for something bigger.... I like airstills, even if only because they remind me of the Dalek's.....EXTERMINATE...EXTERMINATE...

My other half misses our AirStill - she hasn't used the T500, it's too bulky for her and too heavy when full, she used to do run after run with the AirStill when I was out but now I have to do it all myself. Horses for courses but it does have a place!
