Can you believe how stupid some people are ??
I ordered a 1.5 metre length of 2" copper pipe for my VM build.
It arrived today. Well, they arrived today - the two 75cm lengths of copper pipe.
What kind of Muppet sees an order for a 1.5 length metre of pipe and thinks "He'll be happy with two 75 cm lengths of pipe"...
This build seems doomed - ZX55 sent the wrong size triclamps, are now out of stock on the 2" clamps and are also not replying to my emails...

If I remember correctly, I told you that the most time consuming part of building something was getting all the pieces together.
I use a supplier in Manchester and keep using them because of the range of fittings they carry. They have never managed to get an order right so far, I just build another week into the timetable to allow for their screw ups.
Improvise, overcome - cut 4" off one of your 0.75m lengths split it and make a sleeve that fits inside the 2" pipe use this as a slip joint, when it all fits well, solder it. More than strong enough and will probably only take half an hour. Your 1.5m of pipe is now only 1.4m but in one piece. All the joint material is on the inside and with a rub over with wire wool you will not see the joint.
Can't help you with the tri-clamps, never used them - you could follow Ant's example and make them out of wood.

Might not be too bad a thing, if you were going down the tri-clamp route then a clamp in the middle would let you split the column.
It would be much easier to pack, and can be broken down for storage, and you can just run the top half for more flavourful drinks like white rum.

Indeed you did !!
Good news today though. The company supplying the tri-clamps replied, I sent them a photo of the clamps fitting around a 1.5" seal (which fortunately I had) and not fitting around a 2" seal. I got an email back later in the day saying they would send the right ones out next day delivery.
I also assumed that buying the copper pipe online would be cheaper than local (as this is usually the case) but I popped into a local supplier today who suggested some other places. Two phone calls later I had found the pipe cheaper locally.. Fortunately I can fit a three metre length of pipe in my car so I'll probably pick that up on friday and return these two short lengths to the seller...
My new brazing gear also turned up today and I had a very helpful email saying what type of flux and silver solder to use to join stainless steel and copper.
Today kind of turned things around
