Suspicious Wash

Some of you may recall I said I had tried a wash with saved Vodka star yeast sediment that didn't work.I then pitched in fresh VS yeast and it seemed to pick up.
Well it's now nearly 2 weeks since I did that and still bubbling slowly so I though I would check the SG.
On opening the lid I didn't smell as normal. not really off just not right and there appeared to be a few red/orange floating liquid 'globules'. SG was still just above 1000 but I fear it's knackered.
Do you think I should introduce it to the drain ?

i thought it was oil that had got into the brew bin or i hadnt cleaned it out right ?

still it and see imo the different smell is more than likely from the old yeast

Sometimes you get floating islands of yeast, sort of cloudy looking things - mine were reddish coloured but then I was making a tomato wash at the time... I think you'll be OK, I believe stringy looking things are the ones to beware of but don't quote me.

Still bubbling steady weird. tastes ok I think might just try a run when or if it gets there.gonna try blotting ie any paper to get the evil red bits oot I hope

I've often had tiny amounts of what looks like red or reddish brown oil deposits floating on the top of a finished wash.

Its usually enough, perhaps to cover the head of a 1pence piece. I presume, as I'm careful with hygiene, ingredients etc, that it's likely to be a very small amount of natural plant oils that haven't been refined out, but as the sugars are fermented, they just do the "oil on water" thing and combine in a small amount.

As I just fill the still with a racking tube, they just stay on top and end up going down the drain.

Oh, and that's with a couple of different SS brand turbos and vodka star (actually seems to show more with vodka star, from memory as I'm busy using up the ones I got from Ellie-Claire).

Cheers all scooped them off and there's been no more. Must be the slowest VS ferment ever Saturday run I hope !

Damn! I pay so much attention to sorting these things out...... and you lot have reminded me that there's a batch that needs to be run in the fermenter......

Saturday it is...... though it'll be one out, one in.........
