Smart still novice
I have told to take 800ml and discard the rest, then water it down to 40% that bit I get. BUT I have 4lts at 50% and want to put it through again, how much dof I save on the second run?

It's pretty risky to put that back in at 50%, it may go bang so I'd advise watering it down to 30-35% before it goes back in. Cuts really depend on the kind of wash used, how hard / fast you push the still, how much flavour you want to carry over etc. Are you after whisky or rum or vodka?
The first 50-100ml is not for drinking so please keep it to one side or throw it away, it's mostly acetone with other higher alcohols including methanol it is not good for you! If you can get a load of jars together & take the next 2 litres in 100-150ml samples, line them up in order then sniff / taste your way up & down the line selecting the ones you like the flavour of. Do this a few times then you will know almost on instinct where the bits you want will be and then you can ditch the loads of jars approach & just switch jars to catch the good bit in the middle

Welcome, the boys are trying to point you to this;

and this;
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=765
Read them both, and if still unsure come back with questions.
