orange and cinnamon vodka

Postby eattheliving » Tue Nov 20, 2018 7:49 pm

Hi all,

just thought i'd post this trial recipe.
I did a neutral spirit from the tomatoe paste wash. ran it through the still twice and ended up with a nice clear spirit.
I then put approx 600ml of spirit (60%) with a few strips of orange peel and one and a bit sticks of cinnamon in a jar and nuked it for 3 mins in the micro. screwed the lid on and left it for a day.
opened it up and the smell was great and it had a nice slightly pale whiskey colour to it.
Filtered it to get rid of any particles. The spirit at this point was crystal clear.
I then added half a teaspoon of brown sugar just to sweeten a little.
thinned it down to 40% with water...... at this point my pale liquor turned to an orange juice colour??

see pic.

it still tastes good but strange how adding water turned the liquor orange.
anyone had this happen to them and will my vodka clear?
Image

just realiased that i've put this in the wrong section. mods any chance you could move it to the recipes forum lease?

Probably the brown sugar. Try dissolving some in a small amount of water, I think that will go cloudy too. Brown sugar is unrefined. Orange squash with bits in!

I suspect that there may be several issues here, inluding our old friend "louching".
The oil in the orange peel would be enough to do that methinks.

Robert.

And I put this thread where you asked. :)

And
"flurry"
noun
A small swirling mass of something, especially snow or leaves, moved by sudden gusts of wind. i.e.
‘a flurry of snow’

Mash makes an interesting cup of Tea! ;D
There is no ONE way.
