I got distracted with something else on Saturday, but I finally got around to starting this yesterday. The buckets are bubbling happily.

I plan on double distilling this with the pot still. I'm hoping for a corn whiskey flavor with less effort than doing an all grain batch with corn. I'll actually do an all grain corn batch at some point this year.

Nice one mate,you are not pushing this, in terms of sugar or flavour, you may regret the latter, but loving your gently,gently approach.
I did a big corn wash from frozen Sweetcorn a couple of years back,- it was good,but my reason for wanting to do it again, is that the fermenting buckets looked like buckets of sunshine, really a joy to behold.

I'm thinking of ordering some from still dragon but not sure what to go for

I took a jar of hearts from right in the middle that got drank as white dog, the rest went on to American oak no.4 for about a month. It was pretty decent, the oak definitely added something pleasant & it was one of my first ever runs so most of it went to all those who had done me little jobs or scrounged bits & bobs for me. No one complained anyway so I guess the proof is in the pudding!

In my experience M, you will want more corn flakes. I'm going to make an assumption from your scales that you're in the US? 500g in 8 US gallons is 30 litres give or take, I used 1.5kg in 25 litres and was still thinking it could have had a bit more of a corn flavour. I did use the cheapest corn flakes available though so different brands / quality might get different results. I'm guessing not all corn flakes are created equally!

This is my first attempt at a corn flake wash. It seems similar to the wheat germ wash I've tried a couple times, which makes a great "whiskey".

The kitchen smells wonderful right now. I'd love for this batch to come out with a great corn flavor. If not I'll try upping the corn flakes next time. I'm still doing a real batch of corn whiskey at some point soon. It's just a bigger commitment doing a batch this size with actual corn instead of corn flakes and sugar.

If this one doesn't have a strong enough flavor, I can always run it through the reflux still for vodka. Or just drink it with the mild flavor while I'm waiting on the next batch.

I've just put a was on with 1kg asda own cornflakes
And a handful of bran flakes. 5kg sugar and topped up with water till my hydrometer read 11%
Lots of space taken up by the flakes so may have to strain the trub to recover the fluid retained in the flakes

I routinely throw more than a litre from the bottom of a 23 litre ferment of Yellow split peas. And what went in there was only 250g Peas, 50g Raisins and 100g yeast.
The chickens love it.

I've been a little preoccupied with things lately. I'm finally doing the spirit run for my corn flakes whiskey today. I'm starting with 6 gallons of low wines at around 80 proof. In the next few hours I'll know what the spirit run tastes like. Before aging, anyway.

I have 2 big spirit runs of vodka to run after this, then I'm thinking of taking a break. I've got over 10 gallons of high proof booze already, not counting what I get from the next 3 runs.

This stuff is nice. It's an interesting change from my wheat germ washes. It will be fun seeing how the flavor changes over the next few months.
