It's only 2 days??..I wouldn't have thought so. Don't be fooled by an airlock....check with an hydrometer.

Here's the hydro reading. So if I'm not mistaken that puts it at about 6% doesn't it?

Molasses is hard to get a true reading. From looking at the photo on my phone ìt needs longer, the hydrometer looks to be riding high.
Taste it...is it still sweet to your taste? ?

Thanks ice. It is still a little sweet. I'm now wondering how accurate the reading was at the beginning now though with you saying about the molasses.

Still tastes pretty sweet but only getting activity every 5 minutes or so now.
Any ideas what I can do to pick things up again please guys?
On a lighter note I got 5kg of golden granulated sugar for £1.20 at our local co-op.

Your so excited you posted twice.. :D :D that's a smegging good price for 5kgs...back to this wash.

Have you checked the PH??...I had a wash not long back like this one of your's...when I checked the PH it was way to low.
What about the temp?? is it holding a steady temp?? or up & down?. You say there's still activity, then that tells me it ain't finished, and it's still tastes sweet...leave it well alone dude and wait a while longer. ;)

I was well chuffed Ice.
Still haven't bought any litmus paper or anything to check ph I'm afraid
Temp is 26c

I did also add 1tsp of yeast nutrient at the beginning but forgot to say.
I think the reason I am worrying is it was pointed out that hydrometer readings are not very accurate when using molasses.
I so want to make a rum that my wife can enjoy

The one main point about craft distilling is you never lose any likker. If after you've run a strip or spirit run and what you finish up with is not to your liking...you just bang it back into the boiler...water back to 30%, and run again.

I've read a lot about using molasses in a wash....and it's hard to get a true reading on an hydro...have you thought about trying a GS wash?? it gives a very nice light vanilla type rum...we both love it. ;)
