This is good stuff, hate the super yeast stuff because stuff smells and tastes so bad. Hva to filter it twice which is tedious.
Maverick, your recipe, how much spirits did you get in total? And where can I find those ingredients? how long does it ferment? It really does not need filtering?

I get around 5 litres of spirit once cut to 40%, off each run if using 500ml of backset wich is around 30% I get 600ml @ 60% so once cut 900ml @40%.

The ingredients i,e Gypsom, Citric Acid, Epsom Salts and Wine Nutrients you can get from your local home brew shop, the yeast I get from CO-OP Extra not all Co-Op stock this yeast, Tesco\'s certainly dont.
With regards filtering, trust me you will never need to use Carbon again, it\'s so Neutral it\'s liking drinking water apart from the Burn, leave it for a couple of days after distilling and it realy mellows out, however if you taste it straight from the still you wont believe just how good it is.

Give it a try you wont be disapointed, Oh it takes around 11 days to ferment to 1000, never got it below that yet and it does like to be kept warm, I use a brew Belt (All good things come to those that wait)

Nice one Hangover, just to let you know, the latest one I added 1/2 kelo more sugar, 90g yeast and an exta tsp of nutrient, once sg reached 1020 I added an extra tsp of nutrient, been going 9 days and it\'s gone from 1100 to 1005, but be aware it will have a big head on it at first that will overflow a little, so if you have a 6 gallon fermenter I ould use it, or your 5 gallon fermenter and an old towel!!!!!

Mine has fermrnted out, but its not worked out. Its FG is 1020 and a little on the sweet side. This could be to much sugar - not enough DAP - vits - anything. It smells strong, I\'ll find out how much alcohol is in there by how much I get out.
I\'m going to do the same again tomorrow but add more B vits and DaP, ill also be sure to take a SG at the start this time.

Umpa,

Sorry to here it hasn\'t worked out, do you know your starting sg, if so you can work out your alchol % from that, for example 1150-1020 devide by 7.36 = % volume.
Looking at your recipe I think you are using far to many nutrients combined with vit b tablets, this will have the opposite effect on your yeast and give to much flavour to your wash, on top of that the amount of sugar you have used is stressing your yeast and it has certainly pooped out, plus stressing your yeast wll cause off flavours just like using a turbo yeast.

Hi
Well I distilled it and it gave me 3/4 of a demijohn at 80% - I usually get 85% so it was not that far behind and it smells OK but always carbon it anyway. The yeast certainly pooped out but I don’t know if I used to much nutrients, I would have thought I did not use enough.
I made two more washes tonight both 22l using 5KG of sugar one with 3 Tbs of DAP and two of Marmite, and one with 6 tbs of DAP and 4 of Marmite.
It has a SG 1.088 (ish) so it should ferment out this time.
I\'ll be sure to let you know how I get on.

Just been wondering, how safe it is to drink stilled product when you don\'t carbon it? Could one gt disease out of it? or crap liver? or kidneys?
And is it okay to drink alot of stilled product (carboned and uncarboned)? like two liters in a week? compared to factory product? Is there someplace one could send a sample of the product to be tested that is safe and not get caught :)

Hi All

Do you need to add carbon to all high alcohol washes or is it just the ss range of washes logic tells me it removes impurities so is needed but if you use a purer wash recipe is it needed.

You dont need to add carbon to my wash, the reason you add carbon to the turbo wash is to help filter out the bad stuff in the packet of turbo yeast, this is packed with nutrients to speed up fermentation, this mix derived from the bio fuel trade.
With regards drinking 2 litres per week I wouldn\'t recomend that with any spirit, perhaps you need to make an apointment with your local AA clinic LOL.

I\'m no scientist, most people on this site are using a pot still so as long as you discard the first 20ml(foreshots) as this will contain small amounts of methanol you will be fine as the rest that comes out is ethanol and water.
With regards the nutrients if you told me that you only used 3 tsp that would be fine but 3 tbs you may as well stick with turbo washes.

Many thanks for clearing that up for me maverick50 i am gonna try the wash recipe side by side next time i do a ss wash and see how it goes.I will use the same flavours for each wash and see how they go.

Didnt even realise your supposed to discard the first 20ml but will start doing so.Myself and friends have noticed that you dont wake up with a hangover so things cant be that bad.

Its as safe as you want it to be, if you follow the advise on here you will be fine. Also I would like to add that if you drink to excess your going to get a crap liver & kidneys no matter whos booz you guzzle.

Wash Recipe

Just filtering my last batch of super yeast wash. Maverick, I\'ve been askeing from one of net based brewery shops in Finland about the ingredients what you use in your wash. We don\'t have a local brewery shop in my town, unfortunately. they said that everything can be found here:
http://translate.google.com/translate?h ... aineet.php
Had to translate it. but i\'m quessing these are the ingredients?
Gypsom=some kind of chalk, they recommended BACCHUS Viiniliitu 15 g (Winechalk)

Citric Acid->BARSHOP Citric acid Hapote 22g

wine nutrient->BACCHUS Hiivaravinneseos 30 g

Epsom Salts=magnesiumsulfate, found in example bathsalts->Favourite Viinirikki

Allinsons Bakers yeast=wineYEAST (any kind of wine yeast, although todays premiumyeasts will ork more efficiently and make more pure product, than that you mentioned which is bakers yeast) Not my opinion, it was the opinion of the brewery shop owner. he says also that his win packs, which have all the needed components will work better :)
the page with the yeasts: http://translate.google.com/translate?j ... auto&tl=en
So sorry to bug you, but the language makes it difficult to find exact mathces with your recipe. if you could be so kind and see if these are really the needed stuff so I can order them and try your recipe?
