Dunder?

Postby gaza the instructor » Fri Jul 15, 2016 4:13 pm

Should I be using dunder on my spirit run ??
Have 2 wheat extract washes striped.
10ltrs @50% will water to 30 and run
fast in the T500 column on.
Should I add 3lts of dunder to keep more
of the wheat flavour ???
Rather have a full bottle in front of me
than a full frontal lobotomy

If you want to go for it...some flavour should carry though. I've started using dunder, backset or stillage whatever name you wish in my stripping runs....but not on any 2nd runs...as yet.

I believe dunder is rum specific. backset referred to in whiskey, and stillage is pretty generic.

Cheers Ice in the end ran 3ltrs of stillage.
Final run lost the golden hue, but still
smells good.
After cuts ended up with 3.3ltrs @ 90%.
Watered to 40% ended up with 7ltrs. :) :)

Not tried it yet. Aired overnight B4 I made
my cuts. Will air in DJ's (tops off) for
rest of today.
Recycling heads cut now in AS. That is
destined to become blue gin :) :)

Tested last night yes flavour carried.
Brother liked it, needs to be left to
settle or mature I think.

Good... ;) I've waited until now, as I've been running GS washes...I want to take it to the next step.

I've had a "method" of making rum for a while, never got around to making it as the GS is so simple. I've saved some dunder from the last wash....but I have to wait for the wash that's in the ferm fridge at the moment to finish, then the next wash will be by this method. ;D

Put it this way. Certainly didn't do any
harm, and I think increased final
flavour. :)

Without wishing to preach to the converted, I guess that you have discovered that a little time can make a BIG diffference?.
