Re-Distilling

The distillation process itself

Re-Distilling

Postby PieOPah » Sun Oct 12, 2014 8:14 am

As per a previous post I made, I have usually gone through the Airstill Instructions when distilling.

During my last batch, I came here and found that there was a different procedure. Since I had already distilled everything, I didn't want to start from scratch and do it properly.

Overtime, I have been thinking about this and am now thinking a brewing some more and double distilling. With that in mind, after my wash has fermented, can I throw in the neutral spirits I have left from my old batch (about 3 litres @ 40%) and then clear/distil?

I can't see why this would be an issue, but thought I would ask those with more experience.

Thanks in advance.

Hi PieOPah

One of the best bits about this hobby is that we can always recycle anything were not entirely happy with, or indeed distil it again if we think it will improve.

If you've got 3lt @ 40% that's only been distilled once, put it back in your airstill, top it up with water to 4lt and run it again, start from the second stage in the Airstill guides and make propper cuts, I would collect everything in 200ml batches, then let the air before deciding on which ones will become your new and improved neutral.
