How clear is clear?

excellent i'm distilling mine now as we speak, "so to speak' whats it taste like?

Mine tastes yuk but then I never really drink 60%vol neat usually LOL

I'm going to water it down and distill it again to try and make it taste smoother then carbon filter it; and again if it still tastes poor. The rest of the wast I'll leave another few days.
I was just going to water it down to 4L again and redistill it. As I'm re-distilling it Im going to stop at about 1.4L-ish of distilled spirit, next run I'll try and cut it properly then carbon filter it.
If you just leave it to run, drinkable or not how much distilate would you get from a 4L run? just curious.

Just finished ended up with about 650ml @ 59%vol and 600-650ml @37.5%vol
I'll leave it till tomoroow to breath, apparently it helps?

if it still stinks I'll water down an re-distill.
Happy with the quantity and %Vol just the quality is a bit rough.
Next was I'll try the tomatoe/sugar wash.

I just opened the still and it looks 1/2 full, guess you dont have to worry about it boiling dry getting a litre or so.

Seem a shame to throw away the remaining wash, oh well.

If you leave it, it will basically pretty much all come out so you don't want to be doing that. If you're worried about throwing away the remaining wash, try tasting it, lol. The strength you got out of it would be roughly the same as what you put in, i.e the strength of the wash if you let it all run through. Getting the higher percentages is all about when you stop and don't forget it is better to take less and dilute than aim for 40% dead on, from a purity perspective.
I find with the turbos, the carbon helps A LOT but also shaking them in the bottles and then releasing the gas helps too, the smell does pass off but carbon is the best for them it really does strip off those parts.
The best advice I can give anyone is to use the calculator and note where the central purity column starts to drop off fast, that is when pure spirit starts to be overtaken by foul tasting bits and is best avoided. If you're a beginner, take it in stages rather than collecting it all in one, then you can compare them and find the sweet spot for that particular fermentation.

The clearest wash i have had yet was the SS triple distilled yeast using the turbo carbon,although after degassing and adding the turbo clear i left it for a couple of days,racked it into another container,then let it sit for another couple of days until i could distill in the weekend.a small amount of sediment left in the second container.but it was just like water!!

After fermentation i always degas,leave for a two days,rack into another fermenter,add turbo clear and give it another two days then into the Still.A small amount of extra effort to put in for an extra clear wash IMHO.Give it a go!

Unless you are in a hurry for your spirit,do try it,you wont regret it.

Oh and excuse me for bringing up old topics,been going through all the old but goodies and there is some good long lasting topics in here that will be asked on a regular basis by new members from time to time.
