Apple pie
Has anyone here tried the various apple pie recipes out there, you can use either sugar wash or all grain, decided to use 500ml of my corn moonshine, then add 500ml pure apple juice, 30g brown sugar, and 1/2 cinnamon sticks, bring to boil then simmer for 60mins, you should then be left with about 200ml after some has evaporated, take of heat and let cool, then mix in 500ml or 55% abv and your left with 70cl of 40%.
There are many recipes out there which are mostly the same I have just adapted for my run.

Re: Apple pie
I love this stuff.
The only difference being that I add a handfull of raisins to the brew.
I use my Weetabix / Allbran as the base, it adds another flavour.
I have yet to see anyone drink this and not give a big cheesy grin.
It is easily drunk and averyone comes back for more so I tend to serve it up at 20%.

Yes, we'll tried it when it was 1st done with no alcohol in me and was very strong, going to try again soon as I've been drinking to see if its less potent nd if not might boil some more with cinamon nd take it down to around 20%

Re: Apple pie
I use two cans of frozen apple juice concentrate 1 cinnamon stick and 1 cup brown sugar, bring all that to a simmer on the stove and simmer for ten minutes. Add two pints of 50% neutral and 1 quart of apple cider ( store bought). Very yummy

Re: Apple pie
Just reading a few things and most people add apple juice and apple cider to the moonshine, however have also read that the apple cider is not alcoholic and it means something else, n England apple cider would be 4%+ , can someone advise to what it actually means and what and English alternative might be, as if it isn't alcoholic I don't understand what the difference is between apple juice

Re: Apple pie
Hi Chaslam07,
I believe Apple Cider is the raw un filtered pressed juice ie all the pulp and seeds etc are still in the fluid. Apple juice has been filtered and as such does not have these bits and pieces floating around in it. Both are non alcoholic, personally I prefer the English version on a hot summers afternoon.

Ahh right, not sure where I'd get that here, however just moved onto the apple pie I have done cold with ice and is very nice that was just apple juice, sugar and 2 cinamon sticks at 40%

Re: Apple pie
I use something like this it varies every time.
750 ml Apple Juice
500 ml 100 Proof Grain Spirits(or neutral)
125 g Sugar
2 Cinnamon Sticks
Handful of Raisins
Combine Apple Juice/Cider, Sugar, Raisins and Cinnamon in a saucepan, and bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Once boiling, turn off heat and allow to completely cool. Once cooled, remove the cinnamon, strain and add the spirits and then bottle. The flavor is great straight away, but will improve over time.
The flavor is better if you stick one of these on the bottle

Re: Apple pie
I do it slightly differently. I fill a 3L jar with cut eating apples, half red half green. A handful of raisins, and a cinnamon or cassia quill. Then fill with 65% spirit.
After 4-5 days (to taste) remove the cinnamon. Then leave for 3-4 weeks in a cool dark place.
Filter it, then add sugar syrup to taste. Be sure to add the sugar last to make the filtering easier.
You can then let it down with water to drop the ABV if you wish - I've also tried doing letting it down with some still cloudily cider which was really nice.
I like it about 50%
(my wife said: It's a sad state of affairs if your "watering" stuff down with 7.5% cider)
