When's it Finished?
Taking on board a reply in another thread, I took a look at my Wheatgerm wash which was looking a little 'tired'.
Hydrometer said 995, down from an OSG of 1090 which was higher then I'd expected at the time of commencing. Potential AV plenty high enough at this point for a 17.25 litre wash with 3.75kg sugar.
Seemed a fair result so I tried fining with gelatine. It's kicking along quite well again now!

Did you de-gas it before adding the finings? It could be an infection, I am the master of those!

When I think it’s finished, what I do is;
Syphon the wash off the bulk of the yeast bed into a clean fermenter . The yeast bed will be holding a large amount of trapped CO2 which it will gradually release and give the appearance that the wash is still fermenting, getting rid of it takes one more variable away.
Give it a good sloshing around to get rid of the dissolved CO2.
If I am in a hurry add a two part Wilko’s fining kit. If not just leave it to clear.

Bother...I don't believe I did de-gas.
Why not? Cause I generally leave wash to sit until airlock levels when it de-gases by itself.
I'll have to change my ways.
Thanks gents.
