converting a s30 valve
i know one or 2 of yous brewed beer and probably used corni kegs
but i was in my lhbs earlier and chatting away he ask me if i knew anyone
whos into engineering i said i used to do it,i said to him why what you after
doing,he after an s30 valve puttin on one of his corni keg,i said i could do it
for him, then he said if it was possible to put a shut off valve onto the s30 valve
so he can use a hambleton bard co2 bottle,he said the bottle will only be use to dispence
the beer after it been forced carbonating,so he dont have to lug his big co2 bottle around when he goes to partys and that,i said it could be possible to achieve this
providing the shut off valve is same type of thread as the s30 valve,he dont want
to screw the co2 bottle onto the keg for a quick burst he would much rather use a valve
type
anyway my theory on this would be
2x s30 valve
a shut off valve with a tap handle
providing both threads are (in my view)are bspt (british standerd pipe thread)
drill, tap and screw one of the s30 valve into the corni lid
screw the shut off valve onto the s30 valve onto the lid
then cut the threaded part of the other s30 valve which connect the hambleton bard
co2 bottle into the shut off valve, then screw the co2 bottle onto the shut off valve
then when he dispensing the beer he can turn the tap and pour
is it possible to do it this way or am i losing it on a hare brain idea
whats your thoughts or has someone done summat simaler or should i keep them ideas to myself lol

Re: converting a s30 valve
I use cornies, went through this thinking and decided it was eaiser(and much cheaper) to accept the standard fitting and change to a pub gas bottle.
A mate of mine also decants pub gas into paintball cylinders - nice size for parties !

Re: converting a s30 valve
You can buy a tap valve that connects directly onto the output pin lock/ball lock connection on the cornie for dispensing drink, then just fit an s30 in the lid to add gas, that's the way I would do it if I didn't just use a pub gas with regulator.
There's a guy called Norman, who is well know on the beer brewing forums for supplying Cornie kegs, I bought a CO2 bottle off him that was a converted small fire extinguisher so quite portable.
