Gout??? what's it all about??
Just had 2 weeks in the south of France, and arrived home with a dose of the Gout >:(
Boy is it painful...so got to leave the drink alone for now...
I think I may have over done it a little...mixing wine with spirits, and the old saying of "don't mix grape and grain" could be true, as it came back to bite me in the arse.
Just read up on the problem and it's not just drink that starts it off, a load of foods can.
As of now no drink for this coming week...

I tried to be normal once, worst two minutes of my life.

Good to have you back BJ, I trust you enjoyed your holiday. Shame about the gout. My friend next door often suffers from gout, he drinks a lot of homemade wine (tastes awful)
and has a poor diet. Get well soon.

Thanks Fuf,
I don't binge drink, I do tend to mix tho....may start off with a beer then have a couple of glass's of wine....or wine then a glass or two of my vodka, this as to stop, got to go with one or the other. As for food we grow a lot of our own on our allotment and it's all home cooking all the way. Will have to wait and see what happens...

I have only ever had one friend suffer with gout.Aged early forties, ate a varied diet, but a weekend away with wine and the odd brandy would bring on the condition, not even binging.

We eat a varied diet too, I've never had anything like this before. I'm going to watch what I eat & drink for the next few weeks and see if I can pinpoint what if anything fires it up.

A Pal of mine could drink Lager all night with no side effects, drink a couple of glasses of dark bitter and the next morning his big toe looked like an angry Tomato.

Not as yet..
I've been to the doc's, they don't want to use drugs on it as they are sometimes worse than the gout. We will see what the weekend brings and take it from there...it's getting better slowly.

I have suffered with gout on an off for over 35 years, once you get gout. It never goes away. It just stays dormant in your body and can come back at any time, I take naproxen tablets every day to keep it under control, but I still get an attack now and again, some doctors will prescribe allopurinol tablets which you have to take every day.
Gout is a build up uricacid crystals, which form in your joints.

You know, I was suffering with something quite serious and my wife's boss laughed at me in my face - derisorily.
I challenged this boss about her behaviour and it was like the first time she realised and her face dropped. I said rather than laugh at her I would offer her help.
I don't know what it is in this country that people laugh at others' misfortunes, but then again, I could just be a Victor Meldrew....am I the only one not to laugh at You've Been Framed?

I suffer from gout, have done for a long time, and my diet was pretty good.
I dont get too often though, but when I do its the worst pain ever...preferred getting shot strangely enough
I thought naproxen was taken to clear up a gout attack, as thats what the Dr prescribed when I had my last bad attack.
I dont get attacks enough to warrant the £8/month for the allopurinol
