Brewferm Malt Mill
I got this mill through my local HBS for £145 which seems fair but here's a well priced one on line
http://www.homebrewwest.ie/adjustable-r ... 2920-p.asp
Its truly revolunionissed my mashing process
The drive shaft easily fits on my dewalt cordless drill and powers it quickly and effortlessly
It does fit fine on a stardard 30 L brewbi and takes up to 2 Kg of grain at a time which is gound in under a minute It truly is that fast
But best of all at the factory preset gap it is a perfect grist that emerges every grain just cracked a little flour
The conversion in the mashing machine is at leat 30 percent better and clear as a bell

Re: Brewferm Malt Mill
One of those things I've always wondered, how much malt makes how much wash/wort ?
I've been looking at some of those moonsihine type recipes, and some of them use malt, some just use corn, rye and sugar.
So that's me presuming that if it's got malt, you're actually mashing etc, whereas if it's not got any malt and uses sugar, then the corn/rye/whatever is just there for flavour.
Not at all sure I could get away with making anything properly anyway, as I've nosey neighbours on one side and don't get on with them......
so I'd guess that even something like a grain based neutral for a gin would likely be out because of the smell......
Likewise, is it actually that much cheaper to mill your own malt or other grain (even though it's a marvellous looking piece of kit, very reminiscent of an apple mill, like the ones that Vigo sell.......

Re: Brewferm Malt Mill
Never done a mash for distilling myself (keep thinking about it) but my main hobby is All Grain Ale brewing, so if I did try think I would probably mash 8 KG of pale malt for a 25ltr final volume. Like you the smell it would probably create when being run puts me off, the neighbours are all used to and like the lovely aromas I create when mashing and boiling my Ales, but think they wouldn't like that smell.

Re: Brewferm Malt Mill
My all grain mash smells lovely and malty but once it's in the still there's no smell at all. In fact an all grain mash for beer with hops boiled in etc produces a lot more aroma than a mash for distillers beer
I just love the smell of the mash but SWMBO hates it so it's fortunate I have a brewing shed or I'd never get to make any

Re: Brewferm Malt Mill
I started off as an AG brewer and I have a small 1kg hand cranked mill for when I buy small quantities of whole grain for my Trappist ales...it's a PITA....the one you have there Admiral looks far superior to mine.
I tried to be normal once, worst two minutes of my life.
