Re: Where I am today

.... Apparently her doctor told her it was caused by an airborne virus.

That's very interesting 'cos to be honest, we have struggled to identify the cause.

We eat together and eat the same... No one else has had this! (thank heavens).

Did the doctor put a name to it?

Unfortunately not ...

Re: Where I am today

I fear today is not going to be a productive day, my first off for weeks. I was going to get up early and run some neutral low wines for vodka. Woken up by SWIMBO at 3am, I think she has food poisoning as she was ill yesterday and thru the night. Could not sleep, but too early to be making noises in ...

I’ll wind my neck in then. ,,,,, Just off to that American site to tell them about a new still design of mine that will revolutionise this hobby.

Polythene bucket with a PVC drain pipe column and an old car radiator as a condenser all stuck together with araldite - its a winner!

Re: Black mountain gin

Ice, Like you I was not enamoured with gin, I first started this hobby to make a good rum. Not managed that yet. But on the way ended up making a bespoke gin still out of an old kettle and a bread bin! My recommendation for what it is worth is to pick up a secondhand water distiller and use that. 4 ...

@buffalobob without knowing your precise location I can’t help too much, but any drone flown over 500’ is a hazard to aircraft so it will be NOTAM’ed:

Re: Where I am today

Busy old day today, ran the wash I made with sugar and a kg of used grains from a 1 gallon experimental beer. I was impressed when I tasted the wash, very tasty and slightly sweet. I ran it with neutral feints to get them used up to top up my neutral low wines, an error! The distillate was wonderful ...

I set about making up a three roller grain mill that was delivered earlier this week. To my utter amazement Mrs W, who’s only interest in brewing is drinking wine, set about explaining why my crush was too coarse when I did a trial batch of grain with it. Her dad was a maltster and aged 6+ she ...

Re: Concentrated drinks for Hiking Trails

I love walking and I've been thinking about hiking and wild camping along a few of our longer 2-3 day trails. Obviously weight is a major issue when carrying everything on your back. So my thoughts turned to concentrated drinks I could carry with me at 95% and dilute with filtered water from ...

My current boiler is a converted 40L tea urn, its been brilliant, but the lid does flex a bit too much for my liking with a packed column of product sat on it. Ceiling hooks help  , converting a 50L keg as and when I get time, it's a much sturdier item altogether.

Dunder has been infected with lacto using Yakult! Before adding there was evidence of something already growing but the smell was still of fresh dunder, chocolate, coffee, molasses. A week after adding yakult there is more of a sour note but also more fruity.

So you didn’t use the infected ...

Now the real challenge is to make a still that uses the waste heat of the mining computer.
Would you get alcohol or Bitcoin as the by product?

I suspect you would have to distill under a vacuum to lower the boiling point. Currently the electricity needed to mine a Bitcoin costs around £15,000. So ...

I’m not an expert with turbo yeasts this may be rubbish, I noticed the ingredients for the vodka and whiskey turbo yeasts on this site contained urea. I was under the impression that this was not a good adjunct if the product was to be distilled for human consumption. Can’t remember why though, just ...
