Re: Sour mash
Howdy folks brand new here and looking for some advice.
I'm running a corn/ Sweet feed run and wanted to know if I could save and use some back set from this run for my next run which would be a different grain bill. Corn / barley/ rye. For sour mash. Didn't know if using 2 different mashes would ...

Re: Where I am today
I am in awe of your storage capacity. If I had made neutral during lock down then stopped, to still be drinking now, I would have needed a road tanker to fill before hand. So well done!
This is a mix of not drinking like I used to and storing at high abv (I wouldn't necessarily recommend that ...

Re: Where I am today
Well after about a year out of the alcohol making game, I'm back.
The neutral supplies I made during lockdown are now running low so I figured I should dust off the boiler and get back to it. I've missed running the still, although not the constant set up/break down due to having no dedicated space ...

If you did and for those who do that didn't know, those are great to keep and refill with homebrew!

Re: Cold Crashing. Advice needed.
Agree. And a spot on definition. I didn't know if it was being confused with lagering.
Have you found it makes a difference? Crashing and crushing with your own mill are two ends of the process where I can't see the benefit.
I haven't got a mill, but I think I'd only really see a benefit with ...

Re: Cold Crashing. Advice needed.
Reading the replies here it does seem there is a little confusion with terminology.

Does anyone know if Robert's ok?
Just thinking I hadn't seen him post in a while and it looks like he hasn't been online in over a month.

Re: Sodium Percarbonate
If you can't find it cheap, or don't want to order it online you can use Vanish powder which is sodium percarbonate.
I used to use the wilko own brand stuff which is unperfumed, does the same job.
I tried that and it didn't. (Aldi brand).
I assumed the pure was stronger?
That's a good ...

Can't say I've ever had any hazing with my product, not that I've noticed.
I have a feeling there is a member or 2 on here with and RO system, hopefully they will be along to offer some insight

Re: Reverse osmosis
Ok, didn't think it would make much difference if it was pre-boil which is why I asked.
I used to use my airstill to make distilled water for letting my spirit down at the end.
Nowadays I just use a cheap bottle of spring water from the supermarket, haven't noticed a difference in the end product ...

Re: Reverse osmosis
I'm not sure you'll find any supplier of RO water who will definitively say it's fit for human consumption, that seemed to be a theme I saw when looking into it for homebrew.
Don't know where you're based, but this company has a lot of locations and specifically mentions using it for homebrew on ...

Re: Sodium Percarbonate
No scrubbing required. I remember I started using it when I got a Fermzilla which is a plastic pressure fermentation vessel. I'd read a few things about not scrubbing it so that you don't leave micro scratches etc which give infections a place to grow (don't know how realistic that is but better ...

Re: Sodium Percarbonate
I use it for cleaning my Brewzilla and demijohns when they've got stuff stuck to them.
Fill it up with water and leave it to slowly fizz and get rid of all the gunk.

Working with copper
Ok, I'm going to ask one of those vague, general questions and hopefully the hive mind can help out a little.
I have never worked with copper, or any metals for that matter.
I'm interested in getting started, especially given the amount of things in this hobby that you can build yourself.

Re: Infinity bottles
I have an infinity bottle of Bourbon, but I run it quite the other way.
When I have a new bottle which is opened (quite rare now), I add 1-2 measures into the infinity bottle.
Never enough to overpower it, and the taste changes over time based on what's going in, but it's a fun concept.

Re: Where I am today
That is an interesting take on re-using 'spent' sloes.
Robert.
I think I picked the idea up from John Wright (avid mycophile, booze hound, River Cottage forager person) and he aptly names it Slider.
May well be because of what happens when you lean against a wall after drinking a few.
I only ...
