WARNING, WARNING, CHANGES A-FOOT.

Post by Easydrinker »

We are going to add a new landing/home page to the forum in the near future.
We will remain advert free.
We merely wish to re-state the reasons that this site exists, and provide a "soft" landing for visitors.
The admin. team percieve this to be for the common good.
This may cause inconveniece to some posters/users for an hour or so while it happens.
We apologise if this affects you temporarily.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Robert.

Quick update

Preparation for the new landing page have been made, and as is always the way with computers, there are a couple of issues, and these appear to be with the links to the search/archive.

To compound the issues, the hard drive on my pc died this morning, so I can’t fix it until I fit the new one and the half day of associated farting about.

I am on it and will sort it soonest

Moss
Have you tried turning it off and back on again?

Vir prudens non contra ventum mingit.

If it’s broken, it might be my fault, is my responsibility and there is even a slight chance I can fix it 😳

OK< The home page is in place at:

https://stillsmarter.co.uk/

The forum can be found at:

https://stillsmarter.co.uk/forum/

There is a re-direct from the homepage to the forum, along with a button and a link in the text.

There is an issue with the Google search bar saying that it is insecure. It Isn't, you can use it safely, but I am on it and will fix it shortly.

Archive search facility.

Struggling to get this working properly and she who must be obeyed will be home from work shortly.

I have temporarily removed the search facility and will try to work on it tomorrow, bank holiday Monday.

Take your time.
Since reading your post, I have managed my bi-annualar spilt drink on a keyboard trick.
It took awhile to fire up a back-up.
Fairly certain that the hard drive is salvable, if not the laptop.
Tecky Q. I get less spam and hassle on older versions of windows.
Am I less attractive there?
If Windows 7 goes properly tits up, I may migrate to Linux.
Life's a bitch and then you die.#
I intend to smile all the way to the grave.

You do know that Win 7 is end of life? The authors of Spam should be led out back and slowly shot.

If you are serious about Limux, look at Mint

You will be telling me next that King George is dead !
My Q appertained to the simple fact that I get less grief on older Windows laptops.
I started late, with a Vista, it still works.
A couple of 7's going strong.
An 8.1 used as a jukebox,
Killed and wont replace a couple of 10's.
I can swap out memory and hard drives, clone them even, not gaza daft.
Soz gaza mate!
I simply wondered if spamming code was age related, as I said, defunt Windows systems don't seem to suffer.
Thanks for the Mint heads up.

Ho, and lucky fecker that I am, I stuck the drowned laptop on a radiator overnight, (sometimes I remove the battery and give them a shower first),
but am tapping away on the victim right now.

Spamming is related to bastards rather than age or operating system.
The only real cure is the application of a pick axe handle to the ear ole

Well,
In the 2 days since I commissioned the new front page, there have been 2500 attempts to hack in.

Which one of you lot is an amateur hacker?
Have you tried turning it off and back on again?
