I have just suffered a couple of miserable weeks.
From the cat bringing home fleas (which bite me!} , to a dieing laptop, ( result ?, I now run 3 laptops on Windows 7), a printer which is refusing to talk to me, to one of the doors of my car spontaneously combusting, the DVLA taking 3 more months to allow me to still not drive said car, and many other tedious woes.
But I continue to brew, ferment , mash and distll.
Beer, wine and spirits, it is keeping me sane.
Sowing vegatable seeds for the coming growing season is something that helps, a sense of 'future'.
We all face it.

First Toms are sprouted.
I am trying to wear a smiley face.
More daylight is definitely helping.
But, this black hole has been a hard one to climb out of, proper melancholy.
But I am back.
Expect a plethora of responses tomorrow. :lol: :lol:

Blimey early season for fleas. Ivermectin is cat safe, if you keep for livestock.

A few sunny days have certainly lifted my spirits, so I think I understand. Keep grinning summers coming.

I am repairing a gate at the wood shop. Tidying up as I have an early start tomorrow.
I despair at IT issues.

Yes, early for fleas. Our cat had them last year, but I am his human, so they only bit the wife.

I have had a couple of wives, in fact the 2nd popped by today.
I hope that she took the fleas with her.
I was awoken at 7.30 this morning, flea munching my arm-pit.

Oh we all make cars to go bang, (the IC engine ones anyway). They go bang quietly, hundreds of times a minute or the owners moan.

Fleas, get a cat they take them elsewhere. Not all pussies are bad. Been married 4 times myself, addicted to marzipan.
The last one is a wonder, tolerated me for 27 years! And fortunatly she doesn't like Gin. She does however believe she has tinnitus. Drip drop drip, seems to have gotten worse since you all advised me to double distill with my Airstill. I will let her get the meds.

Which reminds me of a joke.....

My wife contracted Tourette's, it was very embarrassing for me. We would be out at social functions mixing with fiends and people we didn't know. I would be talking normally, suddenly my wife would interrupt with a stream of abuse, she developed a bad 'potty mouth'. I insisted she visited a specialist to help alleviate the condition. We thought Tourette's syndrome was the obvious conclusion. But no. Apparently not. My wife does think I am a F****** Arse****. I suppose I have to live with it! No cure.

Don't worry I am still working, paying the tax to support the pension of those who have already retired. Relax take it easy.

But I do have a long weekend off. Clearing a wash ready fo distillation. I will distill a couple of litres of Gin, bigger than usual hints of aniseed and liquorice I think. I like the flavour of those pink and blue chewy gums you find in Bassett Allsorts. The gin is lovely with fresh lime. Must buy a lime.

Also visit and advise an old friend who has just purchased an Airstill. He also bought brewing glucose. Does anyone use that? Appears far more expensive than sugar. He started his first wash with turbo yeast last Saturday. We will see.

What else, tease and tickle the wife, chastise the children, encourage the grandchildren to be naughty while at their own homes. Enjoy cooking.

And if I have time water colour painting.

Then there will be the tasks that other people want, hopefully there won't be any time left for them. I discovered a long time ago that a list of 'to do's' you compile for yourself is much more rewarding than a list you receive from others.

Brewing glucose will hide a bit of bad practice.
Get to understand a sugar fermentation, run the still well. Bingo.

It is 5 times the price, it isn't IMO 5 times the product.

The taste will tell you, when it is in the glass.

People like Lovebrewing encourage the use of brewing sugar,
so they can extract more of your hard earned.
Costco are doing a 5kg bag of T&L for £2.19, a great deal.
20 bags in my trolley. So cheap neutral for the summer. I can
taste a Gin fuelled summer on the horizon.

Thank you Fellow Members.

So I met my old, old friend. I checked his wash, it had started to self clear, I bought it down stairs for him and put it into the conservatory. I stirred it to degass.

I had explained there are 3 aspects of producing a pallettable spirit, he likes Bacardi and Irish Whisky.
1. The wash, generating a low Abv clear liquid, typically 11 -14% Abv from water, yeast and sugar.
2. The distillation, extaracting from the wash as much alcohol as possible in a concentrated form. Having an increased Abv.
3. The flavouring , of the increased Abv distilled fluid.

We started to clear the wash.
I explained I would be back on Tuesday, to symphon and start distillation from his wash.

I brought a 750ml 77%+Abv with me to make him some Whisky and Irish Whisky. I also brought with me a bottle of the Alcotec Bacardi, a bottle of Jamaican Rum, remnants of some SS chocolate Rum and a bottle of Elderflower Gin and a bottle of tonic.

I thought I would be safe, he doesn't like Gin. He was amazed with the whisky/whiskey. Came to the conclusion that dark rum and coke tastes better than Bacardi and coke, and then by accident tasted my elderflower Gin and tonic....

Many people have an assumption about Gin. They don't like it. I wish they wouldn't change their bloody minds, fickle B******.

I will visit without gifts on Tuesday. Be careful when you choose your friends

You can try to promote your wares, which you know from experience to work, only to be met by a newbie that read, or worse, saw, an ebay link where somone tourned a festering bin of bin juice into prime spirit.
How difficult would it be to attach something to newbie posts to disallow.
I believe that Moss is currently working on this.

Is it worth mentioning to your old friend why distilling is done twice - strip & spirit runs?

I do think it's is nice to have a mate to share it with.

:P Yes. Told him minimum strip and redistill once +. Told him and let him smell the heads from a previous wash distillation, he very quickly came to the conclusion that he didn't want to be drinking that!

Also showed him the chart that you previously sent to me.

Thank you for the ongoing advice. I also told him we wouldn't be 'playing together' if I wasn't tempted to consume his product.

We will see.
