People can’t park

Why can’t people park? Someone parked so close to me today I had to live up to my profile pic and climb in through the window.

Had they gone in straight I’d have been able to open my door more than 5 inches.

Really? I mean come on, it’s not that hard.

Don't get me started...I had the same a few years back, I had to climb in through the tailgate, and trip one side of the rear seat. When I was ready to leave I left a note on his/her car saying " next time you park next to me, please leave me a tin opener so that I can get into my Fecking car"

I think the whole standard of driving has dropped recently. We suffer from 2 extremes round here. Young missiles or stationery phoners... Can't use it while driving so they just stop.. Any fecking where and usually in the middle of the road.

Standard of driving these days is shocking, I do a fair few miles so I’m on the receiving end quite often.

The other week I had to take evasive when the lady next to me decided to straight line the roundabout. I beeped as I thought I was about to be collected and she responded by giving me the finger.

I give up with it, I just treat everyone like they are trying to kill me.

👍👍

My grandfather gave me very similar advice "treat everyone else on the road like an idiot".

He was one of the original petrolheads and amongst other things, taught people to drive in the 1930's (pre-licencing)

Pots is spot on. Can't park, can't drive either.

You see a lot more incompetent driving from a cab (tennis umpire chair).

Doesn't help, that when challenged, all these "allegedly" good drivers don't seem to have a clue...

But when working, I don't care cos when presented with 44 tonnes, they bottle it.

Other wagons aren't an issue generally, as we respect eachother as we know we have the same problems etc......

I agree 100% P, after 50 years of pushing the old big wheels you do have the odd Billy Bulker or Mobil car parker who just wants to get past you.

I noticed over the last 8/10 years the emergence of the "Ladette" driver, she will/has to overtake at whatever cost to herself, her car, or any other road user.....any toot or flash will be met with the Harley Davidson salute or Winston's V. :o

I should not really get into this, being a Professional Driving Instructor, but it all
comes down to manners and patience, no one has any time, always in a rush.
Mothers treating my learners like they have a deadly virus and must get past or
their journey is far more important than ours! I confronted one who was
unloading two kids having just carved up my learner and asked what her problem
was, she replied got to get MY KIDS to school. I said one day that her kids would
be learning and she would not be happy if it happened to them. I then said the
car cam had recorded all and i was going to make a detailed report to the Police.
She told me to F$£& OFF and that I was a W£$"^&* and that the copps would do
nothing. She was still being recorded.
Well she must regret that now. Went to see my Golfing bud Tony who is in V div,
gave him the tape put my ADI number behind it and a note from my learner and
the following evening she got a visit. She was booked for driving without due care
and will be nicked.

Youngsters in general do seem very angry, driving or not.. Is it covid, money or video games & social media?
They have certainly learnt to drive from "grand theft auto"

I susspect the issue is lack of manners and respect intilled as a child, coupled with an inflated sence of self-importance.

It's only going to get worse too with all this 'you are special' and 'everyone is a winner' rubbish. Am I starting to sound old yet?

No mate,You hit the nail with the hammer.
I blame irresponsible use of the interwebs.
These Tw*ts need to learn to chill out, like on homebrew/stilling sites.
I would teach them a lesson here

Actually, I suspect it's our sort of generation - in part.

We may have got "a bloody good hiding" for such social transgression, but we didn't do that to our kids as we still have that (hidden) sense of unfairness we experienced from our parents generation.

And now it's too late, as you'd get a tug if someone see's you giving "junior" a clip round the ear.

At the same time, dash cams as well as phone cams are a double edged sword, as we can film transgressors but they can respond in kind. Then it depends on who a beak or jury believe when it comes to "out of context" info/detail.

That is a nice story, well shared.
As you all know, I have been off the road for 18 months, due to medical reasons, now back.
I have taken onboard the new changes to the highway code, regarding pedestrians and cyclists, horse riders etc, possibly because for 18 months I was in that category.
These changes have missed some drivers, completely.
I was most impressed by the last Top Gear that I watched, where they all gained HGV licences, and gave a perspective of driving from a truckers point of view.
It would be nice to think that a few more car drivers also gained an insight into trucking.
Of course, Jessica, by the Allman brothers has been an earworm for the last 10 minutes.....

Very sadly in the smoke most drivers feel immune to others in their two and a half tone Range Rovers
etc and will even challenge Mr P in his truck. After all IT'S INSURED so I can't be hurt!! Can always buy
another one.

Which is spot on, but as I've said to "Bob" before (Mash knows his driving/instructing "credentials"), the main thing that gets missed/skimmed by ADI's is a correct course of action when a type of vehicle (generally the larger ones) that they can't drive, is encountered. They stop too close and wonder why me and colleagues switch off engine and put feet up on dash (mainly for effect - because their action means we can't move our vehicle). A deeper bit of guidance that tells them to stay well back, means that me/colleagues can get out of their way more safely and they can be on their way much quicker.

Plus if they really want to try it on with their "Chelsea tractor" against a 16 metre lump of steel weighing a maximum of 44 tonnes, then they'll find out what it's like to be a loser     (schadenfreude)

Mr P I always alert my learners to the "problems" with driving a LGV ie turning circle,
overhang on the tail, positioning for turns etc. And finish my little chat with the values
of blind spots on trucks, we all know that the mirrors are far better now than years past,
but if you can't see the driver in his mirror he can't see you !!

Laudable indeed Gaz. You may do the right thing, but it seems many don't.

But we do have a few trump cards (185 & 187 of the H.C. I think it is). Only had to use them once, but I suppose it's because I try to be very conscientious in respect of other road users (especially if they have a "Leper" plate - as they've got a lot on their plate trying to learn how to do stuff properly 👍).

Is it driving training (controls & rules) or perhaps driver training such as humility & respect for other road users. Do these form part of driver training syllabus?

I suppose the question is does the syllabus cover "human factors" or just "this is how you do it"

Being a bit knackered, I have to use a mobility chariot to take the dog for a walk.

We live close to a primary school. The parents not only can’t park, they don’t give a fcuk.

The image below is at the front of my house. This stupid, ignorant cow knows that when she parks next to the lamp post, me and the disabled people in my little square can’t get out.

Yesterday, she told me that she was parking there because she had to take her children to school and that I had to wait until she returns. At times, she is there for an hour or two.

I have written to the school who don’t care. The bods at the council who control parking are uninterested as there are no yellow lines and the rozzers don’t respond at all.

I am all set to go to war.

Ah yes, the scourge of the school run..........

They are a law unto themselves. Yet where there've been issues, the occasional appearance of a copper or traffic warden works wonders.

Other solutions tend to be more political (and out of place here).

Mmm. Absolutely no special awareness or visuality concept.

You can now buy electric wheel barrows, perhaps they should practice wi.th those? Do you know that the wheel barrow makes a beep beep warning sound when in reverse to make the operator aware. We are breeding idiots and attempting to cater for them. I believe in, no that not the point, I want to see more terminal natural selection.

No ******** patience here.

I'm surprised they don't care on this one as she is committing an offence that carries a fine - usually they are quite keen to make a few quid.
