A Gin School. Please advise.

My wife and I help at a charity, supporting, helping mentally needy adults. They, when they were born may have been deprived of oxygen for too long, they experience learning difficulties, they only develop to a certain age. My friend Stuart has a clinical age of may be 14/15, however he is in his mid 50's. He looks late 30's, no stress you see, neither do they experience that.

My wife is a textile crafter, every aspect of product, manufacture, teddy bears, crochet, Sewing, Quilting, embroidery, felting, machine or by hand. Today after many years of prompting she took a class. Every one paid, rebooked, wanted to come again and invited friends. My wife can earn and help for months or years to come. She really enjoyed it.

I have been hounded for months to give a talk on the history, propagation and the creation of Gin. It has been suggested I show how Gin can be made. Discussed 'crafting/making' your own Gin, developed how Gin can be mixed, enjoyed and relished with friends as a central party piece, a social lubricant.

Today I have been 'hounded' again. With the question asked, what are the lagalities of such a venture? I myself can appreciate many people may pay £50 - £80 for a 4 hour 'workshop', history, informative, discussion, creation, sampling, advice. Directions to a continuation of this interest. Perhaps, very importantly on the legality and options, if one was to consider, producing ones own.

My wife's class raised £780 in 4 hours on one afternoon. This helps the carers and management greatly.

Thoughts please? I am always mentally expansive, I can however see many 'limitations ' regarding this suggestion.

I have considered the above further. Not for me.

Also, of the topic is considered inappropriate, please remove it. Ta.

It is a good question.

It isn't illegal to have or share knowledge. It isn't legal to own a still.

I don't think you could demo it tho.

And I am in no doubt some will take a different view.

Best not to put your head above the proverbial and risk the other good works you are doing. We exist to help people

Hi Welsh Gin
You could show off your gin making. Heres the rub. If any questions are asked you can reply by saying your using shop bought vodka or GNS from Master of Malt. Duty already paid in this instance.

Yeh I know, but I can appreciate from being slightly behind the parapet currently, compared with standing up and placing a bullseye over my chest, my wife at least would feel safer. Or I would be paying more for my own insurance?

That's not an option...

I thought thar initially. Then struggled with, do you still need a rectifiers license?

Simplest. If I bought cheapo vodka in Aldi, and then soaked the bots and then strained, I think that's OK. But same vodka & bots go through the Airstill I think you are illegal.

Thoughts?

Something my cat may or not eat if not warm.

My initial suggestion requires a great deal more consideration. Also, an investigation of every existing legal rule and the ramifications of coming close to transgressing them.

Currently enjoying. My, My, I made it Gin.

Mind you Welsh its timely and frustrating obtaining a rectifiers license but however you can get one and its free. I got mine in February this year after applying for it in November last year. Possibly worth considering.
