So do we think it is a good thing or no?
I think Temu are being very clever, buying data.

Well it's data isn't it? They or their AI systems will become cleverer. Knowledge/power.......
How can you have artificial intelligence? Isn't it just intelligence, just raw intelligence, without morality or concern

I think my wife has suffered from it for years!!
Is it curable?
Is it dangerous?
Do all you girls have it?
Is it contagious?

Yes. All wives have it. They do not suffer with it though, .....we do. Is it contagious, mmm, well life experience tells me yes but only to daughters. Is it dangerous, yes only to us and other drivers in general. Curable, possible, only upon divorce.
So our options somewhat limited.....

AI is actually quite interesting.
I have done quite a bit of experimenting creating royalty free imagery, admittedly with mixed results. Some images have been very good and useable, some obviously AI generated and some bloody awful. There is potential, but it isn’t quite there yet.
I know the universities are quite worried about students bypassing the grunt work and delivering AI generated reports, but I have to hypothesis that this is actually working smarter.
There are absolutely risks with this kind of technology. When the scammers get into it fully, I think we will have some serious issues, especially those of us who are less aware.
I don’t see the Temu thing as anything more than a logical progression of what Google and their ilk have been doing for years. This is actually why we use Google - they know what we want better than we do. Just be careful if asked to sign up to an organisation called Skynet

I agree with you about Google and I try to minimise my exposure.
But... I really think Temu IS the serious issue.

As far as I can see, Temu is a multi-pronged approach at trying to leverage various markets.
The offered discounts they offer on shopping deals, the data harvesting, etc etc suggest this.
I've been avoiding them where possible and on some of the fermented food sites I read, they've been found to be invasive spammers and users known to me have had to point all their traffic to the waste bin option, otherwise inboxes are deluged with their shit.......
If they were just after data ? meh! there's a multitude of ways they could do that without you really knowing their name.......

There is a real hunger for good clean data.
I wondered if this was a way of proofing it maybe?
