Still Smarter

Those of you who read my posts/dribble regarding distilling will know I am tight and anal.

I record everything. Been doing it for 7/8 years now. I know how to make Gin and many other Spirits using essences or macerations etc. I note the cost, including all ingredients, filters, power and any other consumables.

However, this past Christmas, end 2024, beginning of 2025, I started noting the time, you know how many minutes making up bottles, writing labels, starting a new wash, starting and monitoring my Reflux Still, using the Airstill with fresh bots.

For the record, less than an hour per week. Once you have your shit organised, I make Gin for me and 2 friends, Rum for another friend, bottles for whoever I please.

Little effort. Very rewarding a pleasurable lifetime pastime. Do not over produce just a small amount to make life glide by.

Less than an hour per week. And what an education, chemistry, liquid mechanics/dynamics, fluid management, thermodynamics, plumbing and female psychology.

That reminds me ,I must put another box of cider out to drink,only 2 left will it last until may when the new batch will be ready,rack off some brandy for after dinner,and replenish my G & T ,another 10 mins gone

25l of 8 year old Alcotec Turbo found in roof space just decanted to settle. Finished at 1.000 and smells good. Started a batch of Still spirits Pure turbo sitting on a heating pad wrapped in a blanket and set at 23c on Inkbird. Need distiling time badly. Tempis Fugit or something like that.

You are so right. A few minutes here and there means Jack is not a dull boy.

It takes 20 minutes to put a wash on, be patient, 10/14 days later we can play with a Still. Heaven is raining down.....,

I have produced a Gin that has been given 1st prise in a Gin tasting competition.

Embarrassing really, I can not justify why/how. The bottle submitted by my friend Owain, Liquorice & Anise is sublime.
Recipe easily produced as apposed to Henstone. My humble submition, less than 1/10 of the cost.
